The GC, myself, Cli and her SO went to see La Dispute in the Peacock last night. It was an inauspicious night to be out, as the weather was awful but the play and the pub afterwards were worth it. My second Marivaux in a couple of months (when was Everyone Loves Sylvia? November? December?) and my second Wayne directed play, as well as a second night out with Cli, all things that rarely or never happen so close together.
I really enjoyed the play, particularly the job done by the central actresses, although it was surprisingly short. The basic premise is the some children have been raised in isolation and are released fully grown to answer a disagreement between some toffs as to whether men or women are more naturally prone to infidelity. It was funny, cruel, thought-provoking and uncomfortable in places. I haven't really digested the ending yet. I'd recommend it but I think this is the last week so it may be sold out. I preferred the non-francophone Wayne's translation of the other play, but as I said then I am biased.
Afterwards I met up with Wayne, who I think I last saw in 2001 and we all went to the pub. It was just great to see him and lovely to catch up. I've missed him. He's nominated for an Irish Times Theatre Award and it's great to see him being so successful. These sentences really aren't accurately describing how great it was to see him. Well done that man.
