Ah January, season of nicotine replacement ads and keep fit video releases. But hark! the seasonal sound of the approaching book post on 2008:

Total Books Read - 62

New Titles - 52

New Authors - 15

Non-Fiction Reads - 7

Plays - 4

So a good year for reading new works and discovering new authors. Go me.

Recommendations from the year:Non-Fiction
Julian of Norwich - Revelations of Divine Love, as I've mentioned elsewhere I'll be reading this all my life I think
David Plotz - The Genius Factory, a compelling book about the true story of the Nobel Prize Winners sperm bank, I kid you not, I was up till 3am reading.

Fiction:
Zadie Smith - On Beauty, loved it, there's my review somewhere on lj
Flora Thompson - Larkrise to Candleford, haven't seen the series but enjoyed the book a lot after I realised there was no plot so stop looking for one.
Marian Keyes - This Charming Man, love Marian, loved this, her best book yet and chillingly good.
David Mitchell - Cloud Atlas, seriously good, I liked some sections more than others but it all came together in the end.

Young Adult:
Isabel Allende - The kingdom of the Golden Dragon, the series continues wonderful
Meg Cabot - The Princess Diaries, I only read as far as four but they have been laugh out loud hilarious
Lemony Snicket - I'm up to the Erzatz Elevator now which is my favourite to date.

Author Recommendations:
I'm a terrible woman for finding an author I like and reading everything I can find by them so my newly discovered authors for this year are, in no particular order:
Georgette Heyer - loving the mysteries (the covers are gorgeous enough to get their own mention).
Jasper Fforde - lovin it. lovin it, gloriously weird
Anita Diamant not new this year as a author but only read a second book by her to confirm she is the bomb and not a one hit wonder

books, book reviews, reading
