When seeking out a song or poem for the Winter Solstice, I stumbled across this:
http://telshemesh.org/tevet/jewish_winter_solstice_tales.html I was charmed and fascinated because hithertofore I had never thought of combining Judaism and the solstice. Nor had I ever heard much about an earth-based tradition in Judaism (though I certainly knew there was a mystic strain). And never, never had I heard Levithan connected with the solstice. For some reason, that just tickles me. This also makes me feel a little better about skidding through Hannukah this year with barely a nod.
May you find some time and space during the longest night for a prayer for the earth.
