And the Oscar Goes To....

Mar 08, 2010 21:38

Okay...so I made a few comments about the Red Carpet at the Oscar's last night and Alisha suggested she might like to read a blog about my opinions about last night's "runway.

Charlize Theron in Dior:  Basically she put two rosettes on her boobs!  And the color is pretty bad too.

Jennifer Lopez in Armani Prive: While I applaud her effort at being fashion forward it looks like something is growing out of her hip.  And, since Ms. Lopez is already a little curvy adding volume here was not wise.  This is also one trend that was to "trendy" last night...you saw it coming and going I thought.

Demi Moore in Atelier Versace:  Another trend we saw to much of last night was ruffles.  It reminded me of our cruises with all the 15 year old Spanish girls and their Queiceria (spelling?) gowns.  I was swimming in a sea of ruffles.  I don't totally dislike the color on her though.

Anna Kendrick in Elie Saab (a fave of Debra Messing):  I've been a big fan of her's this year.  First major role for this girl, bunch of noms and she hit the red carpet in style most of this year.  Last night was no different...with one exception....the color.  I like that she did a soft girlie dress (very princess without being Cinderella) but I would have liked to see her in a color...perhaps a shade of blue (the color of the night!)

Meryl Streep in Chris March: What can I say....she was epic Meryl!  Fabulous!!!!

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa: This dress took a minute to grow on me.  When I first saw her I wasn't sure I like the gold but it was much better on the close up shots.

Penelope Cruz in Donna Karan:  I've said it all awards season....try something new Penelope!  I feel like she found a look that worked once and she thought I'll try it again, and again, and again!  But since last night's event didn't have a whole lot of fashion winners she's defiantly a Best Dressed nominee.

Kate Winslet in Yves St. Laurent: While she looked nice it was a disappointment, just because she killed it last year!

Carey Mulligan in Prada: It was young, fun.  Black was a good choice for this dress.  I've never been a fan of her hair though.

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy:  I loved her earlier this awards season but she failed me last night.  It looked like the cotton candy machine threw up on her train!  Worst Dressed Nominee.

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Dries Van Noten: I guess Maggie is tired of the cold, wet weather too.  She channeled her dreams of warmer weather into her fashion...eek!  Worst Dressed Nominee.

Diane Kruger in Chanel:  She could decide....rouching or ruffles....busy, busy, busy!! Worst Dressed Nominee for sure.

Cameron Diaz in Oscar de la Renta:  I always have an OMG moment during red carpets.  Someone always stills the show (Hilary the year she won for Million Dollar Baby is a favorite moment)!  She looked beautiful!  Best Dressed Nominee.

Kristen Stewart in Monique Lhuiller: While I applaud her portral of an angst ridden teen in the Twilight series I'm rarely a fan on the red carpet.  Give her a few lessons in posture and tell her a few knock, knock jokes (she always looks so angry with the world) and she might be a force on the red carpet.

Gabourey Sidibe in Marchesa: Blue was the color of the night and she had a great first time Oscar appearance.

Nicole Richie in Reem Acra: She always wears to much clothing for her frame.  It's like she's trying to see how much fabric she can carry around.  Not a fan of the dancing queen.

Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab:  Apparently Rachel missed the Theta rant that included how tie dye was not cool after high school.  The cut is beautiful and the fit is wonderful but the color choice just doesn't work for me.

Julianne Moore in Calvin Klein: It's pretty but not fantastic.

Mo'Nique in Tadashi Shoji: great color, good fit, but nothing fantastic just good.

Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka: C'mon she's Helen Mirren and she's never wrong!  Gorgeous!

Michelle Pfeiffer in Carolina Herrera: I don't think she walked the red carpet (the shot on the web is from inside the theater).  She looks good.  Color is fun, fit is right on with the trend but there's just no style.  The dress is just there as is the hair.

Miley Cyrus in Jenny Packman:  Another example of a young girl who would benefit from ballet lessons and finishing school...and she's from the South!  Southern Ladies know better.  The dress is pretty but the fit is all wrong...I don't sew but I'm pretty sure her alterations lady short waisted her...and she could have lost an inch or two on the hair, but overall an improvement over last year's fish scales dress.

Queen Latifah in Badgley Mischka:  I'm not a fan of the color, the fit isn't the best, and while I'm all for a woman rockin' her curves....they should do it in a fabric that is a little more forgiving than satin.

Tina Fey in Michael Kors:  I knew we were in for a unique (and eventually disappointing) red carpet when Tina Fey (a nortorious red carpet failure) was the best on the carpet early on..

Amanda Seyfried in Armani Prive:  See J. Lo!!!  Same color, similar cut, and SAME designer!!!!  Is Armani losing it's wonder?

SJP in Chanel: The color is pretty...different from the others in the evening.  I really wanted to chop that thing from her neck and I think there was a gather around the mid-calf area that could have disappeared too.  Surprised she didn't do an Alexander McQueen, she was a big fan of his.

Vera Farmiga in Marchesa: Enough with the Ruffles!!!

Elizabeth Banks in Versace: I guess if you're gonna do ruffles this is a good dress.  Differnet color and it worked for her.

Paula Patton Carolina Herrera:  What can you say?  I applaud a woman who can successfully wear orange on a red carpet. Sigourney Weaver in Lanvin:  It was red with a black belt...she really stepped out of the box on this one.

Sigourney Weaver in Lanvin:  It was red with a black belt...she really stepped out of the box on this one.

Mariska Hargitay in Vera Wang:  I don't know why but I'm having flash backs to the Azalea Dogwood pageant.  The dress is just to heavy at the bottom.  That's the most fabic I've seen since those Spanish girls' dresses.

So that is my rant.  IF YOU WANT TO VIEW PICS THESE ARE POSTED IN ORDER FROM INSTYLE.COM (under the Celeb tab chose Oscars 2010).

Worst Dressed:  Tough choice but I'm going to go with Zoe Saldana.  Loved her at the Globes and that's why she gets Worst Dressed...she knows better!

Best Dressed:  It's been a while since she hit the red carpet with this much style but Cameron Diaz was Fantastic!
