Harry Potter books are so successful because they give children what they have always wanted: to matter, to have something to fight for, and the ability to take part in the fight. The only way that Rowling could do this was to create a new world with a new order - one that has a new presence of power, that being magic.
The Beatles have reached so many people because they create a world where the little things matter, revolutions involve intellect, where the shy boy gets the backing of a musical army, and we're all just trying to get by with a little help from our friends.
They create a world that also has its own unifying power, a world where All You Need Is Love. What could be more seductive than that?
