to beach or not to beach.

so i've been in florida for a week now. we hit orlando and got to see the leonards. we went to disney world, and yes, rode the teacups.

speaking of which, i had never rode the teacups before. what an incredible ride THAT was. we did all the classic rides, big thunder mountain railroad, pirates of the carribean, haunted mansion, small world. and the weather was incredible. we got pictures with mickey, minnie, donald and goofy. we even got to see cinderella get coronated!

but i have one problem...

i still hadn't seen the beach yet. i haven't been to the coast in over 4 years. and it's been probably 7 or 8 years since ive been to the ATLANTIC coast (afterall, the gulf side has no waves).

we traveled to melbourne florida, on the coast. the bmw dealership that we had the event at was 2 miles from the coast. early that morning, i went out with a salesman and drove the route to make sure it was ok. it went right along the coast, but there were bushes, trees, dunes and houses in the way. i could hear it, smell it, TASTE it but couldn't SEE the beach!

it was horrible. you should've seen my facial expressions.

pretty comical tho... we were driving pretty fast, and meg had her face plastered to the window. by the time we got back to the dealership, my neck was sore from craning it, trying to sneak a peek at the beach while driving so fast.

we drove 45 minutes that nite to another city on the coast. and while on the way, i was watching the navigation screen, we never got more than like 6 miles away from the shoreline, but never saw a wave.

it was nighttime when we got to our hotel and there was a major storm moving into the area. but we braved the weather anyway and went out to eat. afterwards, the rest of the team went to bed and jason and i set out on a mission.

MUST SEE THE BEACH.

well, we made it to the coast, parked the car and made our way over a dune. the beach was just on the other side... we were almost there.

as soon as we crested the top of the dune, the wind and the sand it blew into our faces was unbearable. we ran back to the car, and feeling defeated, drove back inland 4 miles to our hotel.

i went to bed that nite completely pissed. we had been at the beach a whole day and i still hadn't seen a single wave.

the next morning... everyone slept in and then we had to go eat lunch. we only had one car and emily needed to get her nails done, and jason and i had errands to run. it got to be around 3 o'clock and i still hadn't seen the coast.

around five, jason and i set out in the first car we could grab, and we drove for almost 30 minutes, trying to find a beach. we found one, parked and had an hour of beach time. i was finally THERE! we played in the waves, fully-clothed and got wonderfully soaked. we collected shells, poked at the dead jelly fish on the beach, and picked up bleached drift wood sticks.

what a great afternoon.
