I watched the movie Quadrophenia last night. I must admit, I haven't really listened to the album too much, but from what played during the movie, it's nowhere near the level of Tommy or Who's Next. The movie was certainly better than the Tommy movie, with actual dialogue and none of the goofiness, but the tunes seemed a bit lacking. I really should download the Quadrophenia album though, give it a fair shake. I did enjoy seeing a much younger Phil Daniels, the guy from Blur's Parklife song and video, and I loved the accents (makes me want to be British so I don't sound like such a poseur when I say "Oh, dat's a fu-in shaim, innit"). It certainly makes A Clockwork Orange make more sense as an extension of the street culture seen in Britain during the 60's (the gang outfits, the slang, the lack of authority). I guess Margret Thatcher cleaned all that up though. Bitch. The movie made me want to listen to the Parklife album again (funny), still the best Blur album and one of my all-time favorites. In fact, let's make a list shall we:
Blur - Parklife
Modest Mouse - The Moon and Antarctica
Jay-Z - The Black Album
Beatles - The Beatles
Enon - High Society
Pink Floyd - Animals
Olivia Tremor Control - Black Foliage
Spoon - A Series of Sneaks
The Dismemberment Plan - Change
The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow
That's all I feel like thinking of for now. I know "Jay Z?" "Wow, the Beatles AND Pink Floyd. You're really casting a wide net. You really know your shit." Hey guess what? I've never listened to a Bob Dylan album. I guess that means I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about. Piss off.
