The Sweet Embrace of Satan

I finally got around to watching Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters, and I have to say, artistically speaking, it really is a surreal, postmodern clusterfuck. It seems to constantly be straddling the line between absurdist genius and pop chaos. Stephen Hunter of the Washington Post perhaps said it best: "Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters is a work of either a profoundly transgressive genius or a goofball high on Pez and patio sealant."

It really was just refreshing to see a theatrically released movie that really just didn't give a fuck...about anything, really, including traditional plot structures and characterization. Hell, it wouldn't even clue you in on the location of the scene, often citing more than one place for a scene's setting.

The humor is, in accordance with [adult swim] standards, completely irreverent and/or blisteringly random. The cameos from the show were superb, with each character fully coming into their own. The plot is beyond absurd and postmodern, and, essentially, exists only so there is something that the characters can be distracted from.

However you may feel about ATHF, there is no denying their postmodern pioneering prowess and the sheer ferocity of their wierdness. If any movie this year shook the traditional foundations of cinema.....oh look, it's Neil Peart!
