I reinstalled Fallout 3 to try to play it on my current machine. It kept crashing. It would go for a bit and crash. It would crash when I tried to save. I don't know why, but my poor old machine seems to be reminding me of why I need a new one. I even did the usual deal (which seems like sort of a ritual when dealing with graphically intensive games) of rolling back my video driver, which has worked numerous times in the past. This video card had problems when I first got it. The company that made it failed to make a working driver for it and I had to find a third-party driver. That software was some of the best I have ever experienced and reaffirmed my belief in the need for a robust open source system supported by donations.

This one was named Ghost Wheel, an Amber reference because of my history with that story. I wonder what I should name the new one.

I do believe in paying something for a service or software that I use that is normally free. When I played KOL regularly, I donated almost every month. I consider my paid account on LJ to be in the same vein and I renew it every year. Hell, I have even donated to Space Ghetto. I am on there a LOT and it provides me much amusement. I'll even donate to the occasional person on the internet that I like and I feel deserves it.

So if you use something that is free and you can, donate some cash you might have lying around to a service you use and like. It's sort of like voting for awesome.
