I had my first appointment with my obstetrician today. i had met with her NP, but this was my first time meeting her, and I can see why she was recommended to me. She was telling me that the doctors in her practice tend to attract certain patient "types" - like one of the guys has a lot of doctors for patients who tend to be very high-maintenance

And yeah, there are so many freaking things you're not supposed to do while pregnant (no soft cheeses! no caffeine! no deli meats! no tuna! no sleeping on your back!) that you really can only do the most reasonable ones, or learn what you need to do in moderation (ie no soft cheeses, but occasional tuna). And that does not make you a bad mother. People can be total freaks about how their way is the only right way. You just do the best you can.
And really, it's good preparation for motherhood. I mean, would you be a good mom if you did everything your child wanted, the first minute they wanted it, and granted their every whim? Nope. You'd raise a tyrant with a monstrous ego and an overdeveloped sense of entitlement. (There's a whole psychological theory about the "good enough" mother and how just being normal and not being able to fulfill their every whim teaches your child that they aren't, and shouldn't be, the center of the universe.)
