Who, me? Bitter?

All of the hype over swimming this year makes me smile inside with smug satisfaction at all of the people who think I'm ridiculous for being such a fan of cycling. I'm just waiting for Matt Phelps to test positive (not bitter at all!). The good news in Olympic cycling is that Swiss rider Fabian Cancellara won two medals, in the men's road race and time trial, beating Stefan Shumacher, who bested him in the TDF time trial. Apparently, it was quite hot and Shumacher crumbled. Unfortunately, Cadel Evans was favored to win the time trial but hurt his knee when he slipped and fell in Paris after the Tour. Now he's out of the worlds with an ACL injury. Poor Cadel! He was also heavily favored to win the Tour de France but had a nasty crash fairly early on and I think it just messed with him physically and mentally. Levi Leipheimer, an America, beat Cadel out for the bronze. An American woman, Kristin Armstrong, won gold! It's always exciting when an American wins, but I have no allegiances. Cycling in the Olympics is kind of like Basketball or hockey - players move between teams from season to season, and in an olympic year, play (or race) against their teammates for their respective countries. And despite the fact that it's an individual that wins a race, it's really a team sport. Fortunately, I was able to catch a bit of the women's road race, commentated by Paul Sherwen and Craig Hummer, who are the TDF commentators for VS. I had thought that Hummer was just a VS commentator who's done his homework, considering that his usual gig is professional bull riding and the other guys are all ex-pros...

But anyway, it's a beautiful day - I'm gonna fix my flat tire and go for a ride!
