ONLY GOOD DREAMS // ONLY HAPPY MEMORIES

Here we were, Eagle,
A hall lined with trees,
Trees draped with stars.
A string of lights on a quiet strip of broadway.
The evening girls in trim-corded pink!
Facing south in your coat, in a memory.
Here are the columns where you dwelled. Here is the stone, the dome.

And the faces of the people didn't matter,
And nothing felt unattainable.
My practical fantasies dissolved into a shell of a goal.

Only good dreams,
Only happy memories.

Here we were, Eagle,
Whatever you occupied yourself with,
Some kind of attainment. And I,
Unable, unable, unable.

Slough it off like snakeskin.
If there is nothing to do, there is nothing to know.
If there is nothing to know, there is nothing to be.

Only good dreams.
Only happy memories.
