Summary: Lee and Kara have a long way to go.
Author's Note: Okay. This is going to seem out of nowhere, but I'm
making up a woman from Lee's past. I know, it's already been done.
I'm going to make it seem like it is true. Trust me? Also, this is
the first time that I am starting a fic without an end in sight. So,
I don't know where this is going.
**There will be no Lee/Dee relationship beyond friendship.
After their conversation, or lack thereof, it became a weekly ritual for Lee and Kara to meet and talk. They never talked about each other, they never talked about the present. They always talked about their past. It wasn't until the third week that Lee and Kara figured something out. They knew every bit of what they told each other. Lee knew Kara came from an abusive past, Kara knew Lee had trouble forgiving his father for not being around years before Zak died. It became an unspoken truce for Lee and Kara to talk about things that they never had before. It wasn't really that hard.
"When I was with Lillian, I still didn't want children. We were going to get married and I didn't want children. She did, eventually. She loved being in the military though, flying raptors. With her, I knew there was a possibility I was going to have a kid. She died and so did that little thought of children. I couldn't be around them. I even let someone I cared about run away because I literally hated the idea of have kids. I'm kinda glad the Cylons made it permanent."
Kara's face didn't show any sympathy after the last statement. Instead, she walked out on him. She didn't just walk out of the barracks, she made it known she was walking away from him. Telling him he was a frakking bastard. He kinda knew that already. She'd be back next week.
"With Zak, we were on the same page. I really loved that about him. But I hated it too. If I told him I never wanted kids, I think he would make sure we never had kids. Children wouldn't have been so bad if I had him. But I needed him to tell me that. I can't blame the Cylons for killing Zak, but I can blame them for my future with no children. Unlike you, I hate them for that."
His head whipped around to look at Kara.
"Is that what you think?" She stared at him.
They both got up at the same time to leave the room. This week was over. She grabbed his hand all of a sudden. She looked surprised.
"Lillian was Chloa's sister." It didn't need to be a question. Lee remembered.
**Three years before the Cylon attacks, two years after Lillian's death.**
Lee hated visiting her. She never tried, but she always made him feel guilty for not visiting often enough. But today was her birthday, he owed it to her to be there.
She recently moved out of her parent's home and into a small apartment in the Caprica City. She was attending the best medical school in the colonies to be a medical scientist, focusing on genetics. She was a smart kid and Lee always liked her. Chloa seemed to be the biggest supporter of his relationship with Lillian.
It was a full minute before she answered the door. She didn't look to be in a hurry or like she just woke up, but he refrained from asking her what took so long. With a genuine smile, he greeted her.
"Happy birthday, Chloa. I know I'm a day early, but I have to leave tomorrow morning, early.'' She threw him a big smile, and greeted him with a tight hug. His throat tightened for a moment before he could help it. Looking at her, he forgot how much she was like her older sister, and how different.
''I'm just happy you're here, Lee. It's always been too long a time with you. So, it looks like you're the only Adama I'll be seeing close to my birthday. Zak won't be here for another two weeks. But that's okay, he's bringing his girlfriend again,'' she said with a wide grin. He returned it.
''So you met Kara. What'd you think?''
She shot him a look answering happily. ''She's a hoot. Her and Zak are definitely kindred spirits.'' He laughed at that. ''Are you and her getting along at least?''
He looked at her in confusion. ''What are you talking about? Sure I get along with Kara.''
''You've always hated Zak's girlfriends. I just figured this one would be the same. But I knew she wouldn't as soon as I met her. She was,'' she paused a while before continuing, ''familiar.''
He knew why she hesitated. Softly, he said, ''It's her laugh. Close your eyes and you swear...It's nice to hear. But other than that,'' he turned to look at her to point out that the similarities stopped there. Or that he didn't want to know anymore. She knew what he meant though.
Kara left the room and left him alone. He followed her quickly. When he caught her in the middle of the hallway, she looked at him, angry. It was another of their unspoken agreements, after their weekly ''discussions'', they parted ways for a couple days. He was breaking the rules.
''Kara, I just. I don't want to sleep alone tonight.'' He was being needy, and neither knew why. It was Kara though, she did that to a man. Or she did that to him, he really didn't know or care. He didn't want to spend the night alone and he wanted it to be with Kara.
She looked at him sadly. "It can't be me Lee. Not yet. I'm sorry." She gripped his hand once. It was a stupid thing to say and ask of her, but Lee felt that need and couldn't let it go. She let go of his hand and he gave her a small smile to let her know he understood. She turned and continued down to the flight deck. She was the one that didn't understand.
