I have seen a few movies in the past three weeks, and I plan on seeing some more. I will post little reviews now and then and let y'all know what I thought about the movie. First up:
So, I had a little idea about what the movie was, meaning that I knew they had two homosexual couples and one heterosexual couple. I was okay with that, and of course I knew that it was a musical. I like musicals, and I liked this one. I can't help but think that maybe the movie would have been better off with an "R" rating, I don't think thirteen-year-olds would be able to handle the material very well.
Anyway, I was a little uncomforable with the lesbian couple because they, or more obviously, Maureen, was very open sexually, and that may have been what made me uncomforable. I really liked the couple Tom Collins and Angel, I don't know, it was more emotionally sound, even though I thought they would be the couple that made me uncomforable. I didn't buy the relationship between Mimi and Roger very well though. I think the ending of the movie contributed to that. I think their relationship could have been handled better.
I loved almost all the songs. Tango Maureen was my fave, and I loved Santa Fe on the subway. The warring duet between Maureen and Joanne was very well done. I forgot, I adored La Vie Boehme, I think that it was funny and well choreographed.
I'll admit, I cried when Angel died, it was exceptionally well done and the montage along with seeing Mimi trying to quit was the best emotional part of the movie. The singing and the acting made the movie very enjoyable and I'm very curious to see the play.
Now, the parts I didn't like. I mentioned the ending, I think the part where Mimi 'died' and came back was done very sloppy and it could have been way better. The protest that Maureen did, I thought, I don't know how it's done on stage, was ridiculous. I don't know what else to say about that. I liked the Light My Candle scene, but at the same time, I didn't. It seemed clumsy and Rosario Dawson didn't sound her strongest there, although she got back on track very fast.
All in all, it was a good movie and I would recommend it to people but only if they look up the movie and KNOW that it deals with HIV/AIDS and homosexuality. I heard a lot some peers that were also at the people complaining and trying to get their money back for this reason.
Anyone agree, disagree?
