So, for a little while, I've been looking for distractions online (preferably memes) because I just have my head glued to the news and it's driving me slowly insane!
So, I remembered that meme about sharing your 7 favorite ships, pictures and all that stuff and I figured I'd do that.
No numerical order right now, ordered by how much I'm thinking about them now :D
Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard - Stargate Atlantis
John: Well, I'm home.
Elizabeth: [John turns to see Elizabeth approaching. Suddenly she hugs him for several moments then releases him looking relieved] Yes. You are. I truly thought...
John: Yeah, yeah. I thought the same thing about you a minute ago. We gotta stop that.
Elizabeth: I'd like that.
This position of this pairing is in thanks to
quiet_fractures and her picspams she just did.
I'm not sure how to explain my love of them. They respected each other, a lot, they protected each other in the ways they could, in that respect, they supported each other when needed, they fought about things that mattered to each, they shared a love for the city and its people and they cared a lot about each other.
A wasted opportunity, in my opinion. And I can only say that because I support writers and creators telling the story they set out to tell. If people don't like it, stop watching.
And I did. (Mostly because they killed off my favorite character, not because they wouldn't make anything canon)
Pam Beesly/Jim Halpert - The Office (US)
Pam: Jim, I called off my wedding because of you. And now we're not even friends. And things are just like weird between us. And that sucks. And I miss you. You were my best friend before you went to Stamford. And I really miss you. I shouldn't have been with Roy, and there were a lot of reasons to call of my wedding. But the truth is, I didn't care about any of those reasons until I met you...The thing that I'm just trying to say to you Jim…I guess, is that I miss having fun with you.
(One of my favorite quotes ever now!)
They were a good couple to root for, and I know that they took some heat from fandom last season (which they may have deserved, I still think the biggest problem was the writers' strike). But I love them. A lot of times I love to cheer for the couple when they're together and the writers give them natural up and downs (like Turk/Carla on Scrubs - WHICH I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY MORE PEOPLE DON'T COMPARE JIM/PAM TO THEM).
Putting that aside, I can't hate a couple when ALL MY SHIPS GO DOWN IN FUCKING FLAMES and this one has the power of sticking around. Unless one of them dies.
Nine/Rose Tyler - Doctor Who (2005)
Rose: We'll go down fighting, yeah?
The Doctor: Yeah.
Rose: Together?
The Doctor: Yeah!
...
The Doctor: I'm so glad I met you.
Rose: Me too.
My love for them has taken a beating, personally. From myself mostly, because ever since Ten/Rose came along, I've always questioned Nine/Rose. But I don't care anymore. It was never meant to be a healthy ship, but that's not the point. Nine was different and I won't let anyone else tell me otherwise. It's my opinion and this is what I think.
Nine showed Rose a new way to live her life and she was obviously grateful for that. And it was always lovely how Rose lifted Nine up when he needed someone. They were a team, and I've always missed that.
It's really a ship I can't put into words as to why I loved them. Actually, go watch that scene in "The Doctor Dances" and tell me you can't ship them! :D
Winifred "Fred" Burkle/Wesley Wyndam-Pryce - Angel
Wes: "I don't know what kind of man I am anymore."
Fred: "Well, I do. - You're a good man. - Will I see you back at the office?"
FRED Would you have loved me?
WESLEY I've loved you since I've known you. No, that's not-I think maybe even before.
FRED I'm so sorry.
(I've always loved this quote, I don't know why, it's tragic, and weird and I think it's a little perfect for them)
Talk about an unhealthy ship! Heh, probably one of the darkest ones I've shipped and I'm not afraid to say that.
He obsessed over her to the point of worrisome levels. I think what I really liked about it was that the writers never tried to redeem that. They always take strides to show that his feelings for her were not the normal "OMG I'm so in love with her". He fucking shot a guy who wasn't researching what was wrong with Fred! Granted, it was in the leg, but HELLO!
Crap, you'd think I was talking about reasons to not ship them. I don't know, if people ship Sylar/Mohinder on Heroes, I can definitely ship these two!
Besides that, they did have an understanding of each other at some point, and they were always attracted to each other, or at least they shared an attraction for a long time (it never seemed very mutual in S3, but S4, definitely).
This one, I actually can't truly put into words. I suppose most of it was that I saw most of their relationship in the second half of S5 (the last season). So, I was exposed to "Smile Time" and "A Hole in the World" before truly knowing their history and that's always "tainted" my view of them.
Jackie Burkhart/Steven Hyde - That 70's Show
Jackie: Steven, do I really disgust you?
Hyde: No. I disgust me because I'm supposed to be disgusted by you but I'm not.
Jackie: Me too! I mean, I like how scruffy you are.
Hyde: Of course you do.
So, there's a ton of reasons to not ship them. But then, there's a ton of reasons to ship them. Because if you look at it a certain why, the show was leading up to them getting together the four years before it happened (supposedly out of nowhere). But really, the first year, she cried and he took her to the prom, the second year, she crushed on him really bad, the third year he finally took her on a date and they shared a hot kiss but they both brushed it off, they were pretty friendly in the fourth year and them BAM, a couple in S5.
Really, if you've never watched the show, watch S5 and tell me you can't ship them (skip the last episode though, they kind of backtrack in the S5 finale)! They were almost perfection. For one, being with Hyde made Jackie grow up, Hyde finally loved someone besides himself.
There are reasons they weren't good for each other, I don't honestly think they understood each other 100%. He never understood how much she really loved him and she never seemed to get why he could be distant. She tried to turn any women's movement back a couple decades and HE MARRIED A FUCKING STRIPPER WHEN HE TOLD JACKIE HE WASN'T READY FOR MARRIAGE.
Ahem. Season 8 of that show I ignore because it enrages me and makes me want to sob.
Moving on...
Robin/Marian - Robin Hood (BBC)
Marian: You organised this?
Robin: We had hospitals in the holy land. I thought that would be the last time I'd see one.
Marian: How did you know it wasn't some infectious disease?
Robin: I didn't.
Marian: That's brave.
Robin: How did you know?
Marian: I didn't.
Heh, a ship I've had since I was little and they didn't disappoint here, IMHO. Marian was strong and fought for what she wanted. I know that some shipped her with Guy, and while they tried to paint him shades of gray on the show, I never bought it. All those "changes" he made were solely for her benefit, IMO, there was nothing if she wasn't there. HE FUCKING KILLED HER BECAUSE SHE ADMITTED TO NOT LOVING HIM, which he should have always suspected when she ran out on their wedding.
And well, Robin is an ass sometimes, but he always did what he felt necessary, I think. He didn't start fighting because of Marian, it was what he believed to be right. He was just blinded sometimes by his feelings for her. And we saw they were returned. They loved each other and I can't HATE ON A HISTORICAL COUPLE.
I'm sorry, I sort of used this to rant about another couple, didn't mean to, and I'm sorry if that's not how you saw them. It's just my opinion and it sort of related them Robin/Marian.
Kaywinnit Lee "Kaylee" Frye/Simon Tam - Firefly
KAYLEE See! You're doing it right now! What's so damn important about being
proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black.
SIMON It means more out here. It's all I have. I mean... My way of being polite, or however it's...well, it's the only way I have of showing you that I like you. I'm showing respect.
KAYLEE So, when we made love last night...
SIMON When we WHAT?
KAYLEE You really are such an easy mark.
I just re-watched this series, so it's kinda fresh in my mind, even though I've listed them last, heh. Now, I know that female characters that pine for male characters always get a bad rep. But what I love with what they did here was that it wasn't really that pathetic. She flirted with him and when he'd stick his foot in his mouth, she let him know. She never hid it when he hurt her feelings. And it was always adorable when she teased him (for example, the quote I used)
The movie made their movie too much about the sexual nature, but the series, I think, made it sweet, a little like that first love, just more complicated because Simon obviously wasn't looking for a relationship with his sister like she was. But they became good friends and I think it was obvious they cared for each other.
Currently, they're the only couple I ship that finished the series(and movie) together. I'm positive about Jim/Pam, but apparently, we have a few years?
Two more:
- Clark/Chloe on Smallville, because I'm pretty sure Tom and Allison ship their characters, even if the writers don't :D (mostly kidding, but 8 years and the ship is STILL THERE, imo)
and
Luke/Lorelai on Gilmore Girls, the only other show where I feel okay saying the writers dropped the ball. I think it was all good through S5's "So...Good Talk"/"Pulp Fiction", after that I felt S6 sucked and I didn't even finish S6 let alone watch S7. Except for the series finale and it's great that they kissed, but I wasn't as elated as I could have been because CHRISTOPHER NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE and I'm done.
Sorry.
WOW, you guys, I just went on and on, damn. I just realized, about 80-85% of the time, I seem to get fucked with the couples I ship. Maybe that's why I'm not shipping on current shows I'm watching, aside from The Office.
