Work and gigs and stuff...

Back in Glasgow...  still tired from the big day out on Wed and have a full weekend of work ahead. Roll on Monday morning!

Last night was pretty good though. My boss covered a few hours of work for me so that I could go to a gig with
mortontsmith .  We met up with some folk from his work and saw Michael Hargan and a support band Wilburnsilver.  Morton knows Michael Hargan's manager or something so we scored free tickets.

Wilburnsilver weren't too bad, 100% original set and I might even see if they are playing about the traps again sometime. Intially I thought the lead guy was trying to be James Blunt (which really does not appeal on any level) but as the set moved on they sounded a bit more Waterboys-ish (which does appeal)  and by the end of their time onstage they were quite blues-ish in a Yardbirdsy kinda way.  Don't you love my descriptions tonight?!  They did have CDs for sale and I contemplated buying one, cos I was in the mood for purchasing something, but in my true cheap and nasty way was not prepared to spend more than a fiver. I did not, however, wish to appear cheap and nasty by asking how much and then declining if the price was not right so I let it slide...  Image is everything people! :-)

So on to Michael Hargan who did a mixed kinda set. He plays his own music but will also start off on an original piece and then slip into a cover of something else. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it was just a little irksome. His band was pretty good though and I would see him again. The Cellist looked totally bored the whole time, the keyboardist looked like Bruce Spence and the drummer was just amazing (by that I mean very talented, not amazing in a phwor way). I was glad I went and obviously with free tickets the price was right too!  On the way out I was asked by the manager (who I had been introduced to earlier) if I would like to buy one Michael's CDs. At a fiver the price was perfect so I bought one, although it must be said that I was more inclined to buy one as Allan (the manager) remembered my name. Good PR work like that deserves to be rewarded!

Downer for the night was that I had to start work at midnight and go through til the morning... and I am back at work tonight and will be again tomorrow...

But overall, things are good!
