Avatar: The Last Airbender: Season 3, episodes 12-13
The Western Air Temple is built upside down? EXCELLENT! Though I wish we could see more in the interiors of the buildings. I love how Wheelchair Boy’s (yeah, I forgot his name) first thought is “I want to find secret rooms!” and then later he’s all “ok, let’s do the tunnel thing again now that I have working breaks!” (What have those kids been up to?) Haru still needs to shave.
And a flashback to early Iroh/Zuko exile days!
But most importantly, it’s the return of the Dorky Emotastic Angstmuffin Zuko! I like Serious and Driven Angsty Zuko, too, but he isn’t as entertaining. Zuko practicing his introduction to a frog and impersonating Iroh and Azula is the best thing ever. And then he was all “I will beg the twelve-year-olds!” I think he and Toph both needed hugs after he accidentally burned her feet. More Toph,though. And Zuko, the next time there’s a blind girl with burned feet crawling through the forest, the proper response is to run after her and carry her to her friends, not to wail “Why am I so bad at being good?”
And Appa licking Zuko! Repeatedly!
And then there was Zuko Tarzan impersonation. Only without yelling. And Boomerang finally returns! I may or may not have actually said “You deserve to have Boomerang fail after ignoring it all season for Space Sword!” when Sokka said “Don’t fail me now!”
But was Katara threatening Zuko with bloodbending at the end there?
And then the next episode had dragons! *insert dragon fangirl glee* As fond as I am of the blocky warbeast dragons of Eurporean mythologies, I do prefer the more serpentine dragons of other mythologies.
I love how Zuko not being angry any more makes him lose his firebending which makes him get rightly mocked which makes him angry again but that doesn’t fix the firebending problem.
I wonder, though, why Sozen decided to wipe out the dragons. And the leader of the Sun Warriors was totally Iroh’s BFF in another life. You know they had tea together when Iroh was there. I wonder, though, if Iroh killed other dragons before meeting the masters.
And there was baby!Toph with the giant badgermoles! Too cute! Though, water bison were the first airbenders, dragons the first firebenders, and badgermoles the first earthbenders. What were the first waterbenders, then? Did I just forget? Or is it the moon itself? (Though I thought they just got strength from the moon.)
