Hell Girl Vol 3-4

This seems to be losing steam. Or rather, not really gathering up steam. I keep waiting for some of the focus to shift to Enma Ai and her helpers, but it never does. I watched a bit of the first and second series of the anime, and while the last couple of episodes in each did shift the focus to Enma Ai (and there were one or two about her assistants, I think), the majority of it was the straightforward episodic stuff. I honestly have no idea how they've managed to make three series out of this.

It's a very interesting idea. I think a lot of the success has to do with moral moral question and desperation of the characters.

The manga is terrible. The anime is much better. The first two seasons anyway. I would not recommend the third season. I've been watching it as it is released and I'm currently on episode eight. I'm still not impressed with it at all.

However season one is by far the best and season two has a nice "ending" to the series. Season two explains the origins of all of Ai's helpers, too. But season one of the anime beats them all with it's more memorable characters, more shocking stories and overall better feel. Not to mention the art for the anime is much prettier than the manga. So I'd highly recommend the anime, if only the first two seasons.
