Kekkaishi Vol 14-15

At the end of the Jaren/Takeshi arc, Tokine comments that she didn’t get to do very much. That’s my feeling on these volumes as a whole. I have a bad feeling that editorial told Yellow Tanabe to start piling on the male fight buddies to make sure the target audience stayed interested.

I liked Takeshi, but something about the fumashi strikes me as rather silly. They create bonds with the ayakashi that control them? Would be ok, if it weren’t for that fact that, not only does that not seem to work well, but they also seem perfectly capable of just killing the ayakashi. I also can’t help but suspect that the bond just makes ayakashi more dangerous.

I was glad when we went back to the council members plotting against Masamori who’s plotting against the corrupt council members. I really liked Misao and her curls and little black dress (visually, she reminds me of a younger Rue from Princess Tutu) and how Masamori taunt her how to fight without killing, even if her captor still ended up dead, though it wasn’t really her fault. Her powers were pretty cool, too. I’m a bit concerned that she and her brother now seem to be MIA. Tokine also finally got to do something when she fought the teleporter guy, though I have a feeling someone’s going to have to show up to save her.

I’m glad we’re getting to see more of the Shadow Organization members, including female ones, but I wish it’d been clearer what Miki’s powers are.
