Angel Diary Vol 3-4

Alas! There was very little of Bi-Wal in these volumes. On the other hand, a lot of it was about Ah-Hin, so, joy!

So, apparently there was no gender-switching involved, just Ee-Jung being forced to dress as a girl as a child because it’s tradition to dress Red Phoenix as a girl, and Ah-Hin was dressed as a boy because White Tiger has always been a male before. Still some fun gender bending anyway. Especially when you take into account Woo-Hyun having bullied Ah-Hin as a child because he had a crush on “him,” and getting the genders of the children confused as a child. He seemed very relieved that his current female crush is actually is childhood male crush. I admit, as much as I like her sheer hatred of him over the bullying, I’m rather rooting for him.

And Ee-Jung’s parents are the retired Red Phoenix and White Tiger through an arranged marriage, and Ah-Hin is the former White Tiger’s illegitimate child with the lover he already had before the marriage. I’d actually like to see them becoming friends despite his mother hating her.

And a lot more people come to find Dong-Young, including Mi-Hyung, who claims to be Bi-Wal’s fiancee. I’m not sure if that means Bi-Wal isn’t the King of Hell after all (unless he’s the king’s brother or son) because it seems most of Hell ignores the treaty. But then there’s a character who shows up at the very end, who seems to be a higher up in Hell. One of them unseals Dong-Young’s powers. Revealing her identity to the entire cast. Not sure what the demons are going to do, but Ah-Hin takes care of Woo-Hyun and Doh-Hyun by promising to date Woo-Hyun if he protects Dong-Young, and someone high-up in Heaven (the queen?) seems to be helping Dong-Young to hide.

The Bi-Wal/Dong-Young shippers continue to be adorable, and are now also shipping Bi-Wal/Ah-Hin, Ah-Hin/Woo-Hyun, and Woo-Hyun/Ee-Jung. They’re like their own fandom, but without the wank.

But did I mention that there wasn’t enough Bi-Wal in these volumes? Though the lurking in trees was appreciated, despite often being rather stalkery in other cases of such things. Then again, I think he was just in the background to move things into place while the guardian spirits and demons learned the truth about Dong-Young. In theory we will now have Zomg! Bi-Wal reveals! Angst!

Still not caught up with what I've read recently!
