Heroes: Season 1, eps 21-22

So, Sylar is evil because mommy pressures him to try to improve himself and be big.  Of course that's it.  You know, my mother talks about how I could be doing better and ignores what I say if she thinks she knows better (the tuna sandwich scene made me burst out laughing because it was so familiar) but, you know, I just accept that part of her will ways see me as a 10 year old, I don't go off and eat BBBBRRRRRAAAAAIIIIINNNNNSSSSSSS!!!!!!! and then assault her with snow globes when she eon't stop!  And then she gets fridged.  Of course.

This is a pity, because Sylar interested me for a little bit there when he was upset that he might blow NYC up.  But then we were back to the same old, same old.

And why was Candice walking and talking as herself not 10 feet from Micah?  (Maybe that's what reactivated his "not mom" radar.)  I do, though, like how she likes him, but has nothing resembling any motherly instincts going on.  I'm not sure what I think about the implication that she's overweight and ashamed of it.

So, Linderman is breeding mutants?  I was wondering about how it was so conveniently turning out that way.  Apparently X-Men 1.0 had a splitting of opinions sometime in the last 14 years (Hiro Papa was still with them when Bennet adopted Claire) with Linderman on the "Let's blow up cities for the greater good!" side and Hiro Papa on the "No!  Blowing up cities is bad!" side.  I approve of Hiro Papa's preferences.  Mama Petrelli seems to be on the Blowing Up Cities side, but I hope it isn't that simple.

Bennet cxontinues to be awesome with knowing people's powers and skills better than they do, and I loved his using Matt as bait.

So, were Molly's parent's mutants, or just Molly?  IIRC, Sylar had eaten her Dad's brain, and the hidden room makes me think her parents knew someone might come after her.  I like her tracking powers.  Also, I think she made Mohinder smarter.

Just as Claire started getting to do things by and for herself, Peter takes over there and now her storyline is all about his being the special one.  Though I do like that Bennet seems to be accepting that things won't always go the way he wants there, and that he has to let her go a bit.

Nathan and Hiro scenes continue to be adorable.  I like to think that Nathan got in the car and went "I think I kicked a puppy."

I am going to preface this next bit by pointing out that, in general, D.L./Nikki is the only Official Pairing on the show I support in any way.  Bennet, Nathan and Matt obviously love their wives, but Matt seems to be the sort to have his wife on a spedestal and have the classic Nice Guy Impossible Expectations and Standards, and Bennet regularly lies to his wife, regularly has her brain tampered with, and thinks she's a little glass flower that will shatter if bumped.  Nathan also keeps secrets from his wife, cheated on her, and seems to have the whole "must be protected from the world thing going there, too, though I am willing to accept that a lot of that comes from the accident.  At least with D.L. and Nikki, I can see how they'd be perfectly fine without all these outside forces acting against them, and I generally find it easier to handwave parts of their storyline with "good people in a bad situation.".

Ok, so, was it too much to ask that Nikki be able to take back control on her own?  Linderman gives Jessica a proposition, and while Jessica is hesitating, D.L. takes care of it?  And since when does Jessica need an incentive to save Micah, or even have to think about it?  That whole moment was (as near as I could tell) supposed to be Jessica/Nikki coming to terms with each other, but in the end, it's D.L. who gets to make the final move.  And why didn't Jessica just say "Hey, thanks for the money!" and throw him out a window?  And why wasn't D.L. phased, or why didn't he just keep himself and Jessica phased?  He's always been so competent in such matters before!  And how did he manage to keep the hand?  *mumbles about the X-Men annual where Kitty Pryde stuck her arm through Sabretooth's head and said that if she made her arm solid, she'd lose it, but he'd be dead*

At least Linderman only died after he healed Nathan's wife.  (Err...do she, Mrs. Bennet or Mama Petrelli even have first names, or was that too much trouble for the show to bother with?)

Next!  Season finale!  Who will explode?  Will more female characters get their moment to shine robbed be the guy?  Will Mohinder or Peter do anything vaguely intelligent?  Will Sylar be utterly boring for a guy who eats brains to get super-powers, even though he's clearly meant to be compelling?  Will Bennet shoot a little girl?  Will Hiro save Ando in time?  (He must!  We don't want out Hiro to grow up that way!)  Will I at least get a cool fight?
