Things happen! Previously "We say they're smart but actually they're dumb!" people grew brains! People who are usually smart forget they have them! Previously loser characters who got kinda cool become losers again because TPTB realize they distract from Emo Boy! And lest we forget: BBBBBRRRRRRAAAAAIIIIINNNNNSSSSS!!!!!!
The highlight of the Mohinder/Sylar storyline was the brief moment I thought Sylar had stuffed Zane in the refrigerator. Alas, we don't get that kind of awesome meta commentary here.
Now, let us discuss Mohinder's intellect. A mutant is desperately eager to help him with his research and meet other mutants. Ok, fair enough, though I'd be a bit suspicious. But he thinks Sylar is locked up, so I can forgive missing the flashing red lights. Ok, not really. but I could still try to. The first one they approach gets her brain eaten the same day they meet her. (Err...Sylar, I credited you with a bit more intelligence than that, btw...) RED ALERT!!!!!! RED ALERT!!!!! Is this what clues him in? No. It's a news article with Zane's death. Ok, things picked up! Mohinder drugged Sylar! And got all hot vengeful! And then he didn't notice the brain eating serial killer with lots of powers (ok, I admit, I forget if Mohinder knows about all the powers) turned off the IV.
MOHINDER! You had been improving! Alas!
But...uhm...why does this storyline bore me to death? Fandom assured me that this was a fascinating plotline. Then again, it also told me that they were totally sleeping together, and I did know that probably wasn't true going in...
But really, this is a plotline with a serial killer who eats brains! It should be the most awesome thing ever!
On the Hiro/Ando front, we have the Evil Woman using her Evil Feminine Wiles to seduce Ando away from Hiro's True and Pure Friendship, thus causing Hiro to Turn Away from Ando, and making Ando prove himself worthy again. He'll never be distracted by evil blonde showgirls again! He promises! Offended? Me? Naah. Hiro/Ando reunions and Nathan/Hero cute scenes are not enough compensation!
It didn't help that this was going on at the same time Meredith was using Claire to blackmail Nathan, and lying to Claire about how much money she was getting. Though at least she seemed genuine when she was worried she'd been wrong about sending Claire away.
Mrs. Petrelli called Nathan a glorified sperm donor. She also knew about Claire and is The Haitian's real boss. Mrs. Petrelli wins. (Does this mean that she's a higher up in the organization?)
I'm giving a Micah and D.L. a pass on not noticing Jessica was driving the Nikki/Jessica body. She did only just get out of solitary. And I think D.L. is writing off her behavior as having debts to Linderman that he hasn't figured out yet.
Speaking of Linderman...all that build up, and that's it? A generic old white guy criminal boss? I sincerely hope there's a lot more to it than meets the eye. And I don't mean mutant, related to a mutant, or part of The Organization. There are enough of those already!
.The Nikki/Nathan team up is interesting, though i wonder if it really is Nikki in charge, or if Jessica is still playing. Nikki was able to try to tip D.L. off, after all. Also, even though I am immensely bored by Matt and kind of hate his personal life storyline, I did like his battle with Jessica. I continue to like this take on telepathy. And then he stole the diamonds. And, right after a bag of diamonds goes missing in the case where his client died, he gives his wife an expensive diamond ring. IT HURT MY BRAIN!
And there is a non-blonde female mutant. I like her powers (the completely immersive illusions) but I get the feeling that they're going to royally annoy me. They're already doing the unusually snide and catty comments, and have her going to the Bennet's hotel room in a schoolgirl costume. I do like how she seems to be ambiguous, but not really how she's doing it. Though, was Mrs. Bennet really there in that scene, or was it part of the illusion.
Mrs. Bennet's whole mental problems still scream of a bad Buffy ripoff. And did Bennet seriously say that she was a gentle soul, and that people like her shouldn't know about the bad things in the world? That...may be the most sexist thing to come out of this show yet. (Yes, idiot, she SHOULD know that scary brain eating men will invade her house for her daughter! She needs to know she's in danger so she can try to prepare herself for it!)
In the next episode, he is cool again by completely manipulating everything in the hostage situation to his advantage (was getting Matt and Radioactive Man into custody part of the plan, or something that went wrong?). It's also interesting that he told Lyle to get Mom out, but not Claire. Of course, he knew Claire wouldn't die, but still...
Then again, Claire was also standing beside him, and he had a pretty good idea that it involved work, so Claire could have been a part of it.
I did like how he originally didn't want to keep Claire (who would want to raise a kid, knowing you'd have to turn them over as an object if they ever started floating or ran too fast or whatever?) but had to. And Hero's father is part of The Organization? And I'm pretty sure that was Simone's father's building they were on the roof f there.
Speaking of Simone, WOW! A double refrigeration! How cool is that! Well, she never had a single scene that didn't center around the love triangle, so why should her deatyh be about anything else? And why did they have to turn Issac into a vengeful, jealous loser? He got so cool. I maintain that TPTB realized they'd made him the better choice and more interesting character between him and Peter not to mention hotter so he got re-loserfied.
Speaking of Peter, I didn't even notice that he'd been gone for a few episodes until he came back. We liked him while he was still getting trained by Claude. Because we likes Claude, yes we do. Then he was on his own again, and went to being dull and emo and annoying. Only, you know, getting to use all sorts of powers now! (Show, have I thanked you yet for making Simone's death all about how Peter is better than Isaac? Because i appreciate that. No really, I do.)
BUT! SYLAR KILLED THE EMOHAIR! I think! (And is that the scar Hiro was talking about? "Hey, you look like someone tried to saw your head off!" is actually a pretty fun scar! And Sylar has Mohinder nailed to the ceiling! I almost liked Sylar there.
