I remain eternally amused that Bleach characters always do their best to prove the Four Laws of Shounen Motivation:
1) I will protect this person!
2) I will surpass/beat this person!
3) I will fight under this person for eternity!
4) I will get revenge for this person!
Ok, they aren’t as big on the 4th, but they compensate with the rest. Do we think anyone besides Ikkaku would keep bankai a Deep Dark Secret and reject promotions? (Maybe Byakuya should leave off holding Rukia back and go hang with Ikkaku.)
I am also eternally amused by the whole “oh, we’re all getting our butts kicked here, so let’s reveal that we’re all only fighting at a fraction of our real strength and have the restrictions removed so that we cn now show you our true power!”
