Slayers is about Lina Inverse, a young (15?) sorceress.  Lina is powerful and intelligent, but also brash, greedy and careless.  After she steals treasure from thieves, the thieves go after her and she's "rescued" by a swordsman named Gourry.  Lina didn't need rescuing, but rather likes the idea of being rescued by the handsome swordsman and swept ( Read more... )

Though...we're only on episode 9, and already building up to the "end of the world battle against the supervillain?" What will they do for the next 17 episodes?

Make more jokes about Lina's boobs!

I don't know why I shake my head at the "Lina has a flat chest" lines...I mean, I've been reading Kyo complaining about Yuya's chest not being bigger for years(not that he seems to REALLY have a problem with it) and that's an impressive chest...

I watched part of the most bizarre MV with the character in your icon in it earlier(I decided it would make more sense once I actually met the character.)

Lina's breasts are drawn a bit small for an anime character ;)

But! It's kind of like Ranma 1/2 where they constantly tease Akane having the figure of a boy because she's athletic, or not being cute, un-feminine or whatever, when her base physical model is exactly the same as every other female in the series.

(Now, to be fair, they are teasing her, but...)

Yeah, they are a bit smaller than usual, but I haven't noticed them being much smaller than the other female characters. Though I haven't exactly been looking very closely...

And yeah, Rumiko Takahashi tends to make everyone's bodies look the same a lot...

Have Gourry and Lina fight over food!

Slayers is one of my all time favorite anime, although my favorite character has yet to show up in season 1.

I spent the first few episodes thinking about how their babies would eat the world.

I'm impressed that they're equally piggy.

I discovered early on that it was a bad idea to eat and watch at the same time.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Slayers have arcs at the beginning and bigger arcs at the end of the seasons and picaresque goofiness in between. Don't get discouraged by episodes that aren't arc. They'll end eventually, and there aren't that many of them.

I seem to recall season 3 having a different rhythm to it, but I can't recall what it is and am currently uncaffeinated (and hoping to go back to bed so not going to get caffeine until much later).

I'm fine with episodes that aren't arc. All I require is that I be entertained.

Just commenting to say that I love your icon (though I have no clue where it's from).

It should be Twelve Kingdoms, Juuni Kokki, if you're talking about the default one by meganbmoore.

Great anime with lots of female empowerment. Ought to still be available in English.

If you mean this one, it's Sam Carter and Jack O'Neill in Stargate SG-1. While they aren't actually going out(he's her commanding officer which makes it strictly no-no for both) that's his general attitude. That and "Carter's brain saves the universe a lot, so she can whup your butt with her brain if the guns don't work."
