Rose Hip Zero Vol 3
Vol 3 wraps up what I assume is act one of the book. Hopefully, it won't have Kasumi getting a new partner, as I'm somewhat attached to Kido(they remind me of Rin and Manji...if Manji used guns instead of 50 different kinds of blades and Rin were good enough to almost make him look like a wuss.) I probably shouldn't like Zero, but there's something about a character who brings a sword to a gunfight, not to mention a guy who calmly picks up his hand and walks away without even bandaging the stump. I'm not sure yet, though, what I think of the 2 year jump(it seemed rather sudden) or the apparent revelations about Kasami's origins. i was neutral about he Rose Hip Rose oneshot, though I appreciated alterna-Kasami's brief fangirling of Fujiki Naohito(she has good taste.)
Dokebi Bride Vol 4
Vol 4 was something of a break from the series's usual meta about myth and tradition in the modern world, with that aspect not really coming into play until near the end. I liked the focus on Sunbi's stepmother, and her trying to get close to Sunbi. I'm glad Marley avoids the usual cliche of having the stepmother and stepsister be evil and instead has Sunbi often being the one in the wrong. I mean, sure, her stepsister is amazingly annoying, but she probably wouldn't be anywhere near as bad if Sunbi hadn't rejected all her attempts at being friends. The story with the ghost grandmother was fun, and I'm glad the dokebi folklorist professor will apparently be around for a while (and it's interesting that he can see Gwangsoo) but I was disappointed that the rival priestess didn't show up until near the end, as the back blurb indicatesthat that's a major part of this volume.
