Up to episode 17 now and still largely of the same opinion: likable, solid, but not going to win any favorites awards, I don't think. We've had a long of new psychics introduced, but I'm not sure what I think of them. All the kids are cute, but are scarily close to having "expendable" written on their foreheads. Well, I know Catholicism has this long, deep-seated history of being hated and mistrusted by the Japanese government. I think when the missionaries first came, the government thought it was a good way to open up trade with Europe but then they saw what happened to the Philippines -- in that the indigenous culture was more or less subjugated by the Spanish -- and began to fear for colonialism. I think that's why it's often portrayed as this huge organization that controls everything... because from their POV, it eventually did.

Well, not in Japan obviously since they took to killing Catholics but you know what I mean.

Aye, that part I know, but it seemsthat ANY religion will be portrayed badly in most things.

It's not just in anime/manga that religions frequently get treated that way. My theory is that, when the bad guy is someone like a priest, it just makes him come across as that much more evil. When someone is supposed to be the epitome of good, having them turn out a bad guy makes them even worse.

Yeah, it does show up elsewhere(everywhere) but it seems to be much more prominent in anime and manga.
