comics!

Today was Annihilation Day for comic book reading.  As we all know, Annihilation Day is a glorious day of comic book reading.

I love Annihilation muchly in all it's fun, pulpy, scifi glory.  A pity most of the rest of Marvel and DC doesn't have a clue how to make a good adventure comic anymore.

Nova #5-6:  I'm not quite sure what I think of She-Nova yet(she seems OK, but I'm not convinced yet that she's not just another "female tking on the mantle of a male hero" character yet) but I think I like her.  I do love Dark Nova though, provided it doesn't end up being permenent, and worldmind is wonderful.  Also? Ddddrrrrrrraaaaaaaxxxxxxxx!!!! (a character I never thought I'd care about a few years ago.)

Quasar #2-3:  Another female character taking on the mantle of a male character(ok, seriously, yeah, back when they were making the cool sci-fi characters, they made most of them guys, but come on...just make new roles for the girls, don't just keep offing or booting out or possessing the boys...)  I think I'm starting to like Phyla as a character, as opposed to just liking her as an extension of her heritage and the story.  That said...they are seriously milking the knight imagery here, aren't they?  For very drop of blood it's worth.  Which is actually kinda odd...I never followed Quasar much and don't know a lot of Captain Marvel stuff, but I don't really recall either being greatly associated with knights and quests before.  Not, mind you, that I'm remotely complaining.

Starlord #2-3:  The highly disfunctional Dirty (half) Dozen, starring a less nice Mal Reynolds in the role of Clint Eastwood.  That is all.

Wraith #2-3:  Ultimate devotion to angsty scifi pulp vengeance driven badass hero fun(wait, is that really a category?)  I admit, it's not quite as good as the other Conquest books, but I love it.  Not only does he have a super cool whip/sword thingee( Conquest really likes it's swords...), but he also has the dramatically posing "Mother...Father...I will avenge you" thing down pat.  And he drive s a space motorcycle... Ronan and Super-Skrull are also very nice bonuses(though someone needs to tell SS that the "stop your feminine yammering" bit isn't overly convincing when you're hugging back...)
In other news, I have been linked to an article where Rob Liefeld apparent disses Alan Moore.  I shall now go investigate.
