Not a lot to say on these two. Both are solid additions to their series.
In Platinum Garden, I truly believe Mizuki's family wants to compete with the Sohma's in Fruits Basket for awfulness(and for largely similar reasons, even if there isn't once central figure of absolute hatred like in FB.) Sure, they'll never succeed as the Sohmas seem to pureblooded pros at it, but the Magahara's are doing their best. Plus, unlike the Sohma's, Mizuki aside, there seem to only be 3 decent Magahara family members...the decency/kindness gene isn't quite as isolated in the Sohmas.
D.Gray-Man was sadly devoid of Kanda, though his turn at the FAQs was easily the best part of the bok(not that the rest was remotely bad.) I need to find me a good quality pic of the art for that for iconning purposes...I doubt anyone expected the ending of this volume, though it promises to lead into good stuff. Sadly, Lenalee was limited to damsel in distress role here. Granted, she seems to spend a fair bit of time there(though usually it's more because of men fretting about her than actual distress) but I can't help but think she should and could have done more. Ah well, that's shonen action manga for you. That said, the blurb for the next volume promises the return of Miranda. I'm not sure my nerves can. handle that. In fact, I'm almost positive they can't. They can only handle Krory because of my getting a kick out of the "vampire" character being meak and mealy-mouthed.
