I did not fall off the edge of the world

I've been mostly AFK since Friday due to helping my parents with a sleepover and then my nephews being in town.

Thanks to my nephews, I have now seen Jurassic World. It was more enjoyable than I expected but not exactly great. It really needed an explanation for why the kids in the first movie didn't inherit their grandfather's business (even a passing "they didn't want to because they thought it was a terrible idea") and a cameo at the end of surviving protagonists from the fearlier movies watching the footage at the end and going "told them so." also, Chris Pratt's action movies are much, much better when you imagine them as extravagant roleplaying scenarios that April and Andy from Parks and Rec came up with.

There was also a lot of FoxNews because my parents think that's a reliable news source. There are things I cannot unsee or unhear, mostly Donald Trump related. My favorites being FN talking about violent and disruptive rioters detracting from honest protesters at Trump's rallies, but only showing peaceful protesters, talking about how the only people protesting are millenials, and only to get attention, and a clip of Trump saying "they'll understand once we take over."

Brain bleach is desired.

Brain bleach is probably coming in the form of action movies. Netflix sent me discs for Mad Max: Fury Road and The Assassin (Chinese movie with Shu Qi as an assassin sent to kill her fiance), and has Memories of the Sword (Goryeo era Korean movie with Lee Byung Hee and ladies), so that should be a few good hours.

I've also watched the bulk of Brooklyn 99 over the last couple weeks. I tried it out a while back but bounced off of it because Jake annoyed me so much. I still don't particularly care for him, but he's more tolerable than before. I'm mostly watching for Santiago and Holt, but like most of the characters, with the exception of Sully and Hitchcock. I doubt I'll ever love it the way a lot of people do, but it's a fun bingewatch once you get past the early episodes, despite the fact that it tends to be terribly fatphobic at times, and it does nothing to restore anyone's faith in the police. Other than Supergirl, Madam Secretary and Elementary, I think I'm an episode or two behind on other shows, including anime, and haven't watched the pilot of Underground yet.

tv: brooklyn 99, movie: jurassic world
