Elementary: Season 3

I watched season 3 of Elementary on Hulu in the last few days under the assumption that Hulu is going to be releasing the 4th season as it airs. I should have more to say, but the main things are:

-Alfredo, I have accepted that Joan/ Bell will never happen, so feel free to make that “Can I ask Joan out?” real instead of a way to troll Sherlock. Sherlock can cope.

-Most shows would take the fallout from the end of last season and make it all about Sherlock being “rejected” and cast Joan as the villain of the piece. Elementary rightly acknowledges it as a reaction to Joan wanting more of a life outside of her work with Sherlock, and has Sherlock know this and spend about ¼ of the season working hard to make up for it.

-I really liked Kitty and mostly liked her plot (”mostly” because it did stray close to “default female trauma”) but I’m so glad I wasn’t watching the show in her earliest episodes because I know how fandom reacts to female characters like her. And how fandom often feels they need to prove they’ve suffered enough to justify their personalities.

-i’ll never get tired of Sherlock’s “well, we don’t we just talk about the murdering, international criminal mastermind who’s the love of my life” anytime someone else is experiencing romantic woes.
