deeply unfortunate trends
Characters who, in the last year or so (and off the top of my head), I have seen referred to as a white male character's "bro" more than once. In all but one case, it's as part of an explanation for why the relationship is 100% platonic:
Mako Mori (Pacific Rim)
Nora Clayton (despite an established previous-and eventually present-sexual relationship with the white male in question) (Revolution)
Joan Watson (Elementary)
Joss Carter (Person of Interest)
Abbie Mills (Sleepy Hollow)
Sam Shaw (the exception, because Fusco is middle aged and pudgy and balding a bit, and so fandom finds the idea of shipping him with someone to be an utterly alien concept) (Person of Interest)
