manga: Claymore Vol 18-22

I forgot how rewarding it is to read this manga and be treated with pages and pages of nothing but women in armor (or matching black leather, depending on what group your with at the time) and to have about 95% of the named characters be women. (Actually, I think this series must be approaching 100 named female characters, even if a number don't actually last that long.)

Then again, I also forgot just how demented Norihiro Yagi's brain can be when it comes to monstrous bodies, and his fondness for flying body parts.

And I have to say, while I know some people weren't able to get into the series because the friendships between the characters were slow moving, for me they resonate more than in most shounen I've read precisely because the characters were trained since childhood to avoid connections and to not have many feelings makes it resonate even more when they rebel against their training and forge bonds. And, with the rare exception, bonds with other women.

-"I DECLARE REBELLION." spazspazomg$#%$#^#^*#^%spazspaz "I DECLARE REBELLION." spazspazomfgeeeee!$#^%$#^$#^spazspaz "I DECLARE REBELLION." *delicate maidenly swoon because the sould can only handle so much*

The above was me for about half an hour when Miria reappeared in the traditional Claymore armor and took over the new generation of Claymores.

-And let us pause for a moment to appreciate the sheer bamfness of Miria-who spent years analyzing and investigating The Organization and figured out the real purpose of the island-for just heading home to take on the entire Organization singlehandedly and instantly having her own new army.

CAPTAIN OF MY HEART.

-But then OMG WAS WAS CASSANDRA'S AWAKENED FORM WHAT WAS THAT MY BRAIN CANNOT PROCESS IT.

-Helen/Deneve has always been my main OTP of the series but I apparently now cheat on it for Miria/Deneve because of Deneve desire to go rescue Miria then beat her up for taking off to take on the organization singlehandedly.

-Eternal love for how Priscilla's obsession with Raki being revealed to be only that he smelled a bit like Clare, but that didn't get her anywhere in the end, so he's just useless deadweight and she can throw him away now. Also, i have a lot of appreciation for the fact that Raki was protecting kids and fighting grunts while the women were off doing all the important fighting, but I could have done without his line about how a big rugged sword belonged with a big rugged man, not a little girl. (Also, LOL, Raki, devastation and corpses everywhere and your reaction is "Oh! Clare's friends! Remember me? I'm that kid at least one of you thought it might be fun to chunk off a cliff a few years back!")

-Oh Norihiro Yagi, you and your eternal shipping of Clare/Jean.

-BWAH to their having to carry the Clare/Priscilla..cocoon...thing back and pretty much being all "Yeah yeah CLARE GOT IN TROUBLE AGAIN IT'S CLARE. CLARE IS ALWAYS GETTING IN SCRAPES. WE CANNOT STOP HER. MAYBE IF WE PUT HER OF A LEASH?"

-Well, Roxanne was certainly quite the creepy stalker, wasn't she?
