Continuum 1.10: Pretty good finale, lots of reveals and twists, but largely ones most of us guessed. I largely liked them? The most interesting stuff in the episode was probably Sonya's stuff. Between the developments and the improved wardrobe, hopefully Lexa Doig will have a larger role next season. Which has been confirmed for 13 episodes, so YAY.
Covert Affairs 3.5-3.6: I think these were probably my favorite episodes so far this season, because they focused on the parto f the show that's one of the main draws for me: that Annie isn't a good spy because she can fight or does dangerous things, but because she has good instincts and is good at reading people and finding the right kind of communication for individuals. I don't have any deep thoughts, though I'm glad we have a woman of color around now (no idea how long she'll be there) and am always happy when Oded Fehr shows up (which I wish would be more often).
Political Animals 1.4-1.6: Uhm...given the ending and the fact that the finale's recap referred to "the season" as opposed to "the series," I am going to assume that a second season is in the works. This series got its fair share of things wrong, but I love it deeply for what it wanted and tried to be.
Raise your hand if you're surprised TJ made it out of the season alive. Because I certainly expected it to end with him dead of ODing or suicide.
(Of course, the president was doomed the second he showed intergrity and then had a touching goodbye with his family. Uhm...I actually half-think the VP realized he was going to be on his way out after Garcetti learned what he did with the blackmail [and can probably put 2 and 2 together and get to TJ's suicide attempt from it] and arranged to have something go wrong with the plane.)
Doug, I'm pretty sure that turning into your father is your biggest nightmare, so no more cheating on Anne, OK? (OTOH, I suspect he and Susan were actually both substituting each other for Elaine. I'M JUST SAYING. Also, for all that it kept forgetting to give them many scenes together after the pilot, this series really ships Elaine/Susan a lot.) Urm...I do get the feeling that actually is the first time he's cheated on Anne, though? And hopefully the last.
I am...very curious to see what they do with Georgia if there's more? I think she really is like Susan even more than either wants to admit, except that Susan didn't have a Susan to always be compared to and think she had to surpass.
Ellen Burstyn (I will NEVER remember Grandma's name...) ended up really being the best thing in this series. I love how she ALWAYS calls everyone on everything. Now, go call the writers on inserting the whole thing where women have to reconsider being ambitious if it might affect their kids, because I'm pretty sure TJ being forcibly outted [and possibly being bisexual but forced to publicly identify as gay because of social perceptions and cultural binaries] and watching their father cheato n their mother every 5 minutes and the media dissecting her personal choices to the world constantly contributed far more to Doug and TJ's problems than their mother being ambitious ever could. Especially since I'm pretty sure both secretly think it would be the best thing ever.)
OK USA, if nothing else, you should renew just because Ciaran Hinds clearly adores hamming it up here. And, you know, for a lot of other reasons too. I need AU!Hillary Clinton/Murphy Brown dramatized fanfic in my life!
Sinbad 1.5-1.7: Did anyone else spend most of ep 7 thinking it was the season finale, and then...it wasn't?
I mean, seriously, except Nala's leaving (she better just be leaving the ship, not the show!) I expected pretty much everything that happened in the episode to happen at the end of the season. But I guess they could only have Agbari (...I think I'm misspelling that...) obsessing over finding Sinbad for so long. (And, err, I actually prefer Taryn as a villain anyway.)
I'm kind of amused that my main reaction to Gunnar's backstory was "hey, the token white dude is getting some characterization." (How many western shows let us refer to a the token white dude, I ask.) It...was basically what was expected, and I'm actually more curious about the guys who were after him.
I got excited for mermaids, and then...didn't care? That wasn't nearly as fun as it could have been.
Glad Sinbad is laying off the faily comments he kept making to Nala in the first few episodes, given the smoochies. I am theoretically very very open to the shows obvious desire that I ship them, but need to see him treating her with more respect first. I'm having an easier time with the equallt obvious desire that I ship Rina/Anwar. (I'm also more burned out on "charming rascally rogue x uppity [or so the show seems to want me to see her] princess way above him" than "straight and narrow nice sheltered boy x rough and rascally streetwise rogue-ish girl.")
So, I'm guessing the remainder of the season will be learning Sinbad's identity (or at least, who his father is) and Sinbad vs Taryn?
(And there's a new episode tonight, but I forgot to post this esrlier this week when I watched everything.)
White Collar 4.5-4.6:
Not sure what I thought of the museum ep. Neal being banned was fun but...well, this season's metaplot looks to be better than the ones from previous seasons, but I'm not really into it (and still upset that Ellen died, though futilely hoping for a fakeout there) and am disappointed that Diana and Christie broke up. I'm going to sit here and hope that it was because they weren't able to get Christie's actress back and are going to give Diana a new girlfriend with actual scenes.
The treasure hunt was a lot of fun (as long as the spy ring isn't a new fixture, much as I liked 355) and further proof for me that the show is better at fun capers than anything else. And we really need more Mozzie/June and Mozzie/El scenes. Also, I wonder if we finally got a name for one of June's kids, or if that was part of June's scam.
I also watched season 4 of Leverage. Surrising no one, my favorite epiosde was The Girls Night Out Job, but it was pretty closely followed by the episode with Sterling (because Evil Nate is always fun, and I'm a sucker for his motivations in that one) and the season finale, for the guest stars (Though I wish there had been more girls. But I guess Tara was probably out because she might be known as one of their associates, and The Italian probably isn't quite trusted enough. Or at all. And there's the muscle lady from Chaos's old team, but that would be doubling up and I think Chaos is actually the only one who could fill that particular slot. I can still be sad, though.)
Meanwhile, over in doramaland, I watched episode 3 of Arang and the Magistrate today. This one had a lot of angst, and while technically it was good angst, I think there might have been too abrupt a transition between the humor and the angstfest? Still a pretty fun episode.
Arang's new dress! It was ruined! (All the shaman's hard work!) But I admit that fight and its anachronistic music were my favorite part of the episode.
And Eun Ho's faces just get more and more funny. (Yeah, dude, I know it's shocking when you think a pretty girl is about to kiss you and then she poofs away, but, well, she is a ghost...Plus his "0_0 oh hells no you did not!" face everytime he thought one of the other ghosts was going to get Arang during the fight.)
I didn't know what to think about Yoo Seung Ho's casting as the Jade Emperor because, well, I like the boy, but somehow he doesn't scream "Jade Emperor!" but I'm actually digging him there.
More and more convinced the Grim Reaper is related to Arang. Also, I can't help but think that the housekeeper is actually Arang's mother, but I"ll probably be wrong about that.
