You know, if the point of the last 2 episodes was to show what an incredibly horrible person Arthur is and how he makes a terrible king and how he and Merlin are incredibly sexist and have serious spikes of hypocrisy, I could understand these two episodes. As it is, I'm pretty sure we were supposed to see Arthur as strong and brave and a great leader, and Melin as Tragic.
Ok, aside from the fact that Arthur basically spent the two episodes screwing up, doing stupid things, and killing and torturing people, not only does he have no issues sleeping with his friend's widow a couple hours after the funeral (then again, he did pressure her into having sex with him on her wedding day) but he actually thinks that it's completely in character for her? Urg. Then again, Kay basically said that seducing his friends' girlfriends is his favorite party.
Meanwhile, Morgan is now A RAPIST TWICE OVER and the show quit even pretending to play lipservice to thinking that her POV is a valid one, and BOTH mother figures are dead. Uhm...it's kinda hypocritical of me, but I couldn't care less about Arthur and Merlin being raped given that she did to them what Uther and Merlin did to Ygraine to get Arthur (and the show was very directly referencing that with Merlin, but seemed to be saying that she's no better than Uther with Arthur) who...is no better than his father, but I'm pissed that they made her a rapist in the process.
However, the fact that Ygraine was actually still around in the main part of Arthur's plot was about 80% of my incentive for watching (Eva Green and Claire Forlani themselves can only do so much, sad to say) and now that she's dead (also, anyone who's still watching notice that she was in a white dress and that the bloodstain basically dripped down to her privates and spread from there? Yeah.) and Morgan's a rapist, there's little incentive to watch the second season unless they add TONS of women. But I appreciated the emphasis on the importance of mother's on the show, which is something that you rarely get with these stories, and now all the mothers and mother figures are dead, and Kay and Morgan's mothers STILL don't have names. (I did like the confirmation that Ygraine actually saved Morgan from Uther by sending her to the convent, but I figured that out in the pilot.)
And...the woman he loves/only friend he has asks him to take care of her son as she's dying, and the next thing Merlin does is...leave Camelot. WTF Merlin? I thought even you had a bit more class than that.
Also, killing the far superior Leontes to make room for Arthur/Guenevere. Yick. And while I do think they largely confirmed that even if it's more platonic, Guenevere loves Leontes WAY more than she does Arthur, I think they view the sexual/romantic love as being more important. Sigh.
So, still only worth watching for Eva Green and Claire Forlani as Morgan and Ygraine, and for the general takes on them (with loads of Fail in the execution) and for the fact that it has Gawain and Kay, and kinda...not worth it otherwise. (Guenevere I like/sympathize with but not the way I want to, and the writing of her story just makes me feel bad for Tamsin Egerton, who deserves better material.)
I should find me some Claire Forlani movies to watch now.
