I have now watched all of the Sharpe series after several starts and stops. Uhm...the last few of the original run were kind of...not good for me, overall. I may have to refer to them as "The Alexis Denisof Blight," not because I dislike him or anything, but because the plotline his character was there for (and he didn't really do anything outside of it) was part of what brought them down for me. Not that there weren't good bits. I thought the two longer ones that were made after about a ten year break were much better, despite the appropriative aspect. Also, while I like TV!Sharpe better than I remember liking book!Sharpe, I much prefercrusty, middle-aged "Why am I here! I'm not in the army anymore! I want to got back to my faaaaaarrrrmmmmm!" Sharpe to the younger Sharpe.

Also, does anyone else find it hilarious that Harper seemed to think it was perfectly natural that Sharpe would head straight to India purely because Ramona, who hadn't seen him in close to a decade, asked him to? I mean, we know there was more to it than that, but that conversation basically went:

HARPER: Richie! Good to see you!
SHARPE: Pat! What on Earth are you wearing?
HARPER: Something much more suitable to the weather than you! Why isn't your hair as grey as mine?
SHARPE: Clairol.
HARPER: I'll have to try that. Hey, what're you doing in India, anyway?
SHARPE: Ramona sent me to fetch you. Let's go. I have orders to drag you back by the ear if necessary.
HARPER: Sometimes, I actually do have to ask permission to wear my own pants. Just so you know.
SHARPE: Stop pretending you don't love it. Hey, did you ever name a kid after me?

And they finally brought Teresa and Antonia up after, like, a dozen episodes. It made me happy, but also had me going "Gosh, Sharpe, I get why you couldn't drag an infant around with you during a war, but are you saying you never tried to contact her again once it was over?"

tv: sharpe
