What alternate universe am I living in where John Gilbert is suddenly more tolerable than Alaric Saltzman?
Of course, John uhm, actually seems to be trying to save Elena (and protect Jeremy and Jenna) in his own way (that doesn’t consistently endanger Elena and the people she cares about, so far) instead of basically being Damon’s pet. Like, even his “Don’t disregard me!” type thing was just more proof of that. Also, his (lack of) reaction to learning what Damon’s doing to Andie. Also, weren’t we promised that Andie would get to be witty and not be a puppet? Because since this started she’s said exactly one non-Damon dictated thing, and was compelled to silence for it.
But aside from Damon and Alaric, OMG THIS EPISODE!!!!!
KATHERINE! That pwning of Damon was so epic that I ACTUALLY DID NOT MIND DAMON ON MY SCREEN! I mean, in her scenes. And that first scene with them cracked me up because it was so obvious what she was up to. Like, she wasn’t even pretending to not overdo it, because he’s just that stupid.
AND LEXIE! GIVING BOTH SALVATORES A VERBAL SMACKDOWN! Why so little of her, though? (Why did stupid Damon have to kill her?)
Also, I get so confused when people talk about the sweet and gentle Damon who never wanted to be a vampire. I mean, dude, was happily getting training for how to be the best vampire from Katherine, and after they died, he didn’t want to not live as a vampire so much as he didn’t want to live at all without Katherine, and here, he wasn’t even pretending that he had any concern for the women, just over getting caught. (Where did that bit of intelligence go?)
ELENA KILLED ELIJAH! I am so very very sad to see him go (how did a character so dull in his first appearance end up so endlessly entertaining?) but I’m sure it won’t last.
I like that the witches were the original founders of Mystic Falls. HOPEFULLY INCLUDING BONNIE’S FAMILY. I’m very curious about Elijah’s interest in their burial ground. Perhaps there’s more white ash there, or another tomb situation.
I am also very concerned about Bonnie, but I’m sure this won’t last. Actually, this kind of…removes her from being used in the prophecy? Given Jonas’s “All witches are family” thing, he could actually see himself as protecting her? Not that that isn’t a mass of fail on his part if so.
