Oh Whoopi: A year ago, we all thought you were so cool.

In addition to the fact that drugging a 13-year-old and forcing her to have sex with you when she's asking you not to is not "rape-rape," Whoopi Goldberg would like us to know that golddiggers apparently deserve abuse, and that you can't be racist or a misogynist if you're ever nice to POC and/or women. Also, you apparently can't be held accountable for things you say or do while drunk.

I'm sure she's happy that Polanski got off.

Read comments in both at your own risk, though I want to quote this bit from a comment in the second:

Roman Polanski's tragic childhood is irrelevant, as is the murder of his wife. Many people suffer intense personal tragedies, but that does not grant them the license to break the law. Polanski's great gifts as a filmmaker are likewise beside the point. Ask yourself this question: if you read in the newspaper an item about an obscure nobody who raped a young girl, then fled the country, and was finally brought to justice many years later, would you feel he should be freed, because, oh well, it was so long ago? Or would you feel justice ought to be served, however belatedly?

Addendum:  Also, does anyone seriously think he even would have been in the position to leave the country, or expecting a lighter sentence, in the first place if it wasn't for his celebrity status?
