Man, I forgot that first issues are almost pure setup these days.

X-23: I actually read this when it came out, but forgot to post on it. I’m pretty ambivalent about the X-23 character, aside from the cracktastic idea of a teenaged female Wolverine, but it was by Marjorie Liu and featured the official first meeting of X-23 and Jubilee. I liked ( Read more... )

Black Widow- the writing didn't look good, not a fan of the art, not a fan of the cameos, left on the rack. Does Marvel have any other ongoings with female leads right now? Spider-Woman didn't even last half a year and Ms. Marvel recently ended, so I can't think of any.

BoP- I haven't been following the franchise since it was run into the ground a year or two ago, but it was a decent-enough opening issue. Good enough to buy and good enough to get #2, but nothing that really blew me away.

Marvel isn't really fond of putting out titles with female leads. I'm pretty sure this only came out because of their year of women thing.

Did you ever read the original NYX miniseries? I thought it was pretty fantastic. I never read anything beyond it though (nothing else with X-23, etc.) so I don't know if everything went to crap after that.

Also, did you ever try any of the CrossGen titles? If not, I recommend Meridian very strongly. It's been done for a long time, but back issues and tpb's are cheap and easy to find. Written by a woman, to boot (which is why your post reminded me of it). Has a great heroine (points to icon).

I read most CrossGen titles at the time. Ruse and The First were my favorites, but i also liked Meridian a lot. Never read the original NYX.
