1. The world seems to conspire against me regarding airplane reading next week. I was going to reread Beyond Heaving Bosoms for a panel, but can't find my copy anywhere, and my copy of Mokona's Okimono Kimono won't be here in time. SAD SIGH. I may have to resort to, like, reading a Darkover novel instead. This is a Darkover novel.

2. Am trying to ( Read more... )

<< Was told yesterday that I'm very mature for someone who's only 19 or 20. They were only off by a decade? >>

Wow! You're really mature for 9. ::giggles::

Oh I'm kinda disappointed if that's what the darkover novels are like. The only one I ever read had a lesbian couple. One woman was a psychic and the other a warrior. It was actually quite cool

...so, a with-sex version of Tarma and Kethry. I'm not sure whether I'm laughing at MZB or Lackey, here. =D

If you mean Thendara House, I actually really liked that one! (I only read it after I made the post, though in some ways it still sticks to the pattern.) The book is in many ways totally dysfunctional - because Bradley was very confused about what to do with lesbians, I suspect because she wasn't totally sure she believed that women ought to be interested in sex with either gender - but it's dysfunctional a very thoughtful and compelling way.

Yeah I think that's the one. I read it about 15 years ago when it was shockingly novel. I really should try re-reading it now I'm probably able to get the subtext :)

3. Actually, it can be rather detrimental when people think you're 20-23~ but "trying to act older," when, in fact, you're just acting your age.

Or when people assume the work you do is assistant-level stuff because you don't look like you've been out of university long, or feel free to comment on what you've got in your shopping trolley because you apparently look like a fresh-faced, nervous, first-time shopper (yup, that really happened. When I was 30!!!). Grrr. Sigh.

I found the Darkover parody hilarious, even though I don't remember MZB enough to really get all the references. I read three books, and the women were all horribly oppressed, and two of the main characters were raped. Then I tried to read Mists of Avalon and, though I thought it was good, I had to stop because it was making me suicidal.

I should go back rereading at least one Darkover novel. I loved those when I was in school.

2. Am trying to eat all my food before leaving. This may get interesting.
There is at least one positive aspect with having roommates, everything left in the fridge won't go to waste and start to live. Although I always try to leave as little as possible behind.
