the great anime/manga binge(part 2)

It has not ended, but it has dwindled.  And so...

Stuff I watched:

Inu Yasha: Season 2: At long last, I got around to it.  All the other important characters show up, and the episodes largerly responsible for the overwhelming Kikyo hatred in the InuYasha fandom are here, too.  Actually, these episodes are largely devoted to setting up the status quo for the next hundred or so.  Much fun and goodness.  And Koga.  It's almost too easy to forget how...hard he was when he first showed up.
Knight Hunters: Complete Collection:  This is one of those that I really wasn't sure what it was going to be going in, even though it soumded very interesting.  From the description(a group of handsome men who work in a floral shop who are really assassins for a secret organization) I was wondering if it'd end up shonen-ai or silly.  However, it's more like Wolf's Rain in that it just has a set up with a bunch of pretty boys.  For the most part, it stays on the straight and narrow as and action/drama, including "girls of the week" with a very high fatality rate.  It gets kinda odd with supernatural stuff towards the end, but stays good.
Otogi Zoshi vol 5-6:  Sigh...Iove this one so much...and now it's over.  Things turned out mostly the way I expected, which is a good thing.  The first half of the series was a fairly straightforward samurai tale with a bit of the supernatural thrown in, and this second half was about the reincarnations of the characters in the first half, dealing with the repercussions that were surfacing 1000 years later.  This half focused primarily on detecting and  Tokyo folklore and urban legends.  As an oddity, everything wraps up with 2 episodes to spare, and the last two episodes were "specials."  The first was quite good, focusing on Urabe, a severely underused character, and the events leading to her meeting the other characters.  The second, about Mansairakou, mostly went over my head...it was good, but I suspect that I would have understood it better if I knew more about Japanese and Tokyo urban legends.
S-Cry-ed: Anime Legends vol 1-2:  Caught a few eps of this on Cartoon Network a good while back and was sold, just took me a while to get around to it.  Mostly light fun/overdone action, but highly enjoyable.

Stuff I read:

Death Note Vol 4:  The continuing adventures of monkeyboy and the snot.  I hadn't realized how much both have grown on me until this volume.  May I just say that it's almost disturbing how these two are aout to destroy each other at all costs, are fairly open about it, yet pretty much regard each other as best friends...
Fushigi Yugi: Genbu Kaiden Vol 2-3:  I think I'm enjoying this book more than I ever did a single volume of the first book.  Mind you, that has quite a bit to do  with my not wanting to smack the main character every five minutes...
Her Majesty’s Dog Vol 2:  This would be in the category below, but I feel like commenting on what seems to be an overabundancve of demon dog boys in my reading diet...
Oh My Goddess! Vol 1:  FINALLY I get around to reading this after wanting to for a year or so...while I'm not big on the art(not bad by any means, just not the best)  the story was quite good, and the characters charming.  Now if DH would just get around to rereleasing  the other volumes...
Saiyuki Vol 1:  Another one I've been curious about for a while.  A little rainchy and a little over the top, yet better than it feels like it should be.  Definately getting more.
Samurai Champloo Vol 1:  How is it that this is more irreverent, less cohesive and more anachronistic than the anime, yet it's more coherent and "feels" more "right"?  The world makes no sense...no sense at all...in other news...I read the second half of this while watching the second half of Flight Plan and was still able to follow the movie, and was far more entertained than I would have been otherwise.(Sean Bean a: did not die and b: was not the villain, both relative novelties, and that's about all I have to say there.)

It's light and fun and I really have nothing in particular to say about this particular volume otherwise(while that may not sound overly promising, it pretty much means it did its job and entertained me, and all is well):

Descendants of Darkness Vol 9
Dragon Knights Vol 21
Faeries Landing Vol 11
Fruits Basket Vol 12
Here Is Greenwood Vol 8
Hikaru No Go Vol 5
Inu Yasha Vol 24
Negima Vol 8-9
Ouran High School Host Club Vol 5
Witch Class Vol 2
