A few weeks back, I picked up this book on a whim, based largely on the pretty cover (which does not have the odd distortion issues Amazon's picture has) and am currently reading it.  While it's certainly better than the historical fiction I almost literally threw in the UBS box in self defense (not that that would be hard, from what I read of that ( Read more... )

Apparently I hated the trailers even mmore than I thought!

ETA: Actually, isn't there also a book with the title, but a different plot?

I seem to recall a coworker talking about it. It involved bigamy and when the heroine learns her dead husband had kids in Ireland with the other wife, she was worried about them and then was all "oh, as long as they're happy" when she hears they've been adopted. I remember because we were both "uhm...how do you know they aren't miserable and/or abused?" (Mind you, I have the highest respect possible for adoptive parents, but adopted =/=auto-paradise.)

Maybe that was "The Pilot's Wife," though.

You know, I actually get why the character might want to believe that: her husband's kids, and innocent of his douchery, so she wants to know they're safe, but his kids with the woman he was secretly married to while he was married to her, so not wanting to actually see them. I can see why she'd jump at a chance to tell herself it was all ok, but apparently the text seems to think that, too.
