manga: Wallflower Vol 21

*blinks*

Was that actually almost plot and character development there?

In my Wallflower?

Oh, hey, Yuki’s girlfriend actually showed up for more than a panel. She is cute, and seems to be “normal” enough that her normality actually makes her fairly unique for this series.

I don’t particularly care for Kyohei setting up Sunako as his pretend girlfriend, but I do like how she dealt with it, particularly her enthusiasm for club activities, and kicking the (Ceramic? Concrete?) bust that was dropped on her just as he was about to give the “I’ll protect you” speech.

In the long run, I’m glad Kyohei talked himself out of realizing he was in love with Sunako, because I think she probably has to really figure it out first. She’s not trying to kill him in his sleep anymore, but she still doesn’t take anything resembling attraction well. Any man with a moderate sense of self-preservation would live in denial until she came to terms with the idea of romantic love.

Though I really hope it doesn’t all boil down to Sunako getting over her issues by being convinced that she’s pretty.

Also, what was the deal with the guys who had it in for Kyohei? Was that just a gag nod to the singer Kyohei is based on? They had scary lips, so I kinda hope they don’t come back.
