manhwa: Shaman Warrior Vol 8

Oh my, there’s really only one volume left? I can’t imagine how Park Joong-Ki could manage to wrap this up, given that things only just seem to be getting started, in only one volume. Unless rocks fall, and everybody dies. Which, come to think of it, might not be a stretch for this series.

This volume is divided into two parts-Yaki, Yatilla and Horakaan defending Bokara from her uncle and their enemies, and Genji fighting the assassins looking for the shaman.

I’m not sure what I think of Yaki’s disdain for Bokara (and, presumably, all women like her) but it makes sense with Yaki’s upbringing, and I suspect we’d see it more with men, too, if she actually interacted with men who weren’t also fighters. One thing I particularly liked was Horakaan not being as good as everyone else, despite being a Shaman. It’s nice to see a canon that goes “hey, being born with the Cool Warrior Gene won’t do you any good if you have no training and you’re up against people who’ve been trained for years and have been fighting for longer than you.” Though I do find it odd that he hasn’t had any sort of training in all these years.

While that was good, the fight with Genji was even better, because that’s probably the most resourceful fighting we’ve had in the series. And I’m glad the fight between her, Horakaan, and Yaki’s-friend-whose-name-I-forgot hasn’t ended due to someone conveniently yelling “Yaki!” and it being buddytime, though I’m sure there’s still time for that.

But seriously, only one more volume to complete the story?
