Legend of the Seeker 1.1

Well, if I needed confirmation that "young farmboy/orphan learning he's the destined hero and coming of age" wasn't for me, that was it.  The first 5 or so minutes were fun, but that was largely due to the cinematography blatantly being ripped off of Legend and Korean historical dramas.  (Err, by "Legend" I mean the 80s movie that the Lord of the ( Read more... )

Maeve! That's what this show was missing. And, um, Sinbad.

I would totally watch a show about Maeve and Kahlan. Sinbad can come too.

I'm going to shun you for forgetting my Sinbad girlfriend now.

I was assuming Rumina was the villain!

I think I am intrigued by everyone except the main character. I mean, he's okay, but kind of cliche. And by cliche, I mean "wow, boy, you are STUPID!"

Nevertheless, I'm going to try and watch more because my twin sister told me that it's really good, so. idk. Then again, I know that one of the main reasons why she's watching it is because the main character is apparently eye-candy, which doesn't work on me due to not having a sex drive

When he put on his shirt, there was nothing left to distract me from how cliched he was. Admittedly, I wasn't very distracted to start with.

This was pretty much my reaction when I first started watching.
Me: Hmm. It seems pretty standard fantasy-esque kind of setting with new kinds of magic...hmm. My twin isn't normally into this sort of thing. I wonder why she's so interested--
Main Character: *appears shirtless chopping wood*
Me: AHA. I'm on to you, twinny! *calls her up and calls her on it*
Sister: BUT ISN'T HE CUUUUUTE
Me: ASEXUAL.
Sister: RIGHT. forgot. Um.

She has a weakness for guys with dark tans and facial hair. So.

Aww, I love that show. I'd suggest keeping with it, as it does get better as the season goes along, but if you're not into it you're not into it, right?

The thing is that there's nothing wrong with it, it's just that every element is a fantasy cliche, and not in an inventive way.

It doesn't exactly reinvent the wheel, no. But the characters are worth it for me.

I caught about ten minutes of one episode by accident recently. I spent most of those ten minutes in a fit of uncontrollable laughter. This was probably because I read Terry Goodkind in high school, and, well, his books are shining examples of gender fail, race fail, sexuality fail, BDSM fail, political allegory fail and evil chicken fail.

I was so boggled to see that Goodkind's Great Works of Literature had made it to the small screen that I admit I couldn't actually pay very much attention to the show itself, though.

I refused to touch it based on what I've heard of Goodkind. The people who assured me it was nothing like that seem to be right, but...

I was just going to scream: *evil chicken* and link to that, you beat me to it ^^.

I loathe these books the more they go on, all that dominance, sexual subjugation and rape in every single one of the five books I read until I gave up on that series. I did think the first one had potential, I'm not a masochist.

I just watched the first episode off of Netflix. We're going to give it a bit more of a chance, but the first ep was a bit generic. I even said to Jeff at one point, "And now is when he runs back and finds Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru's smoking corpses..." And it pretty much was.

We'll give it a few more episodes to grab us.
