Is this why people shun books with "a novel" on the cover?

So, the last 3 books I read?

ZOMG! Holocaust and dead grandmother!

ZOMG! Dying of Werners!

ZOMG! Domestic abuse!

I also read some of ZOMG!  300 page letter to comatose daughter!  That one is Paula by Isabel Allende.  It's they second book of Allende's that I've tried, but while I really like her writing, something keeps me from being able to get into her books.

And this does not include Wide Sargasso Sea, which is either ZOMG! (Different) Domestic abuse! or ZOMG!  No, evil manipulative abusers are not romantic and brooding!

This, of course, is not remotely to disparage any book above (at all) but I should read a cheery book soon or any natural bouyancy I have is going to cower in the corner in terror!

Meanwhile, has anyone read Sandra Worth, Diane Haeger, or Anne Easter Smith?  I'm not allowed to get books right now, but I was looking at theirs at the bookstore over the weekend and was curious.

Also, Dollhouse has apparently been officially cancelled?  My only real reaction is "Yay!  Dichen Lachman, Olivia Williams and Enver Gjojik* can get better jobs now.

*Or however it's spelled.

tv: dollhouse, books
