Babylon 5 3.9-3.16

I’m too lazy to look up my comments on the first two seasons, but B5 seems to pack most of the most interesting stuff in the first and last thirds of the seasons, and string interesting bits along between.

Also, I’m very happy that this show rejects the commonly held belief that a female narrator would cause the universe to implode.

I like to talk about B5 in list form:

1. This timeline is beginning to vaguely resemble the Summers family tree in the X-Men comics. Thankfully, a not-inconsiderable chunk of my life between roughly 12 and 23~ was spent making sure I understood that. Then I kinda lost interest in most X-comics.

2. I have deep woes that Franklin’s drug problem wasn’t resolved earlier. Mostly because Franklin on drugs makes him vastly uninteresting to me, and he’s most often my favorite character not named Ivanova or Delenn. (That position sometimes shuffles around with G’Kar, Vir and Lennier, and used to shuffle with Talia and Na’Toth before they tragically went away.) Thankfully, that seems to be gone now. I hope.

3. I’m glad Londo and Vir seem to be dealing ok with the “both will be emperor” thing. I’m sure that pans out along the lines of “Londo becomes emperor then tragically dies reclaiming a teeny bit of his soul and then Vir becomes emperor and tries to make the Centauri better people.” I’m also surprisingly fond of the bit with Vir’s fiancée. I think because her attitude towards the Narn is horrific, it does make sense for her background.

4. Also surprisingly fond of the episode with the guy who thought he was King Arthur. And Marcus’s fanboying.

5. Ivanova told Delenn she probably loved Talia. *goes off to mourn*

6. Love the new uniforms. Though I keep imagining Bruce Broxleitner finally getting to wear something besides the ugly normal uniform and then stomping his foot and demanding a better wardrobe. Though, I did love the vaguely late 19th C. England/WWI England-seemingly-inspired uniforms they had for 5 minutes were fun. The Centauri “Totally 18th century France! With Shi’ar hair!” duds remain my favorites, though.

7. Is it just me or is “Oh noes! Something’s wrong! Run and get Delenn!” becoming a bit of a theme?

8. G’Kar is almost unrecognizable from the start of the series. This is not a bad thing. (Not that I’m not also very fond of early!G’Kar.) The scene where Delenn fills him in on what’s going on may now be one of my favorite things ever. Despite my being forced to pause midway through to talk to a Nielson’s person.

9. Very happy to have Sinclair back! If briefly. And I’m slightly concerned about what’s going to happen with him. And I see he’s picked up the “deep and important voice” thing in the last two years.
