manga: Fairy Tail Vol 6-7
I really only have 2 things to say about the demon island arc is (1) Ur’s daughter! Whee! (2) very annoyed Lucy did almost nothing, (3) Grey and whats-his-name possibly do the shounen thing better than Grey and Natsu, (4)surprisingly adorable demons, in an odd way.
Though at least Lucy got her key? Actually, for all that Lucy was pretty central to the plot in the attack on Fairy Tail (But I wish her father was, like, a major wizard or something, instead of a big businessman or whatever), she didn’t do much, despite my love for her dealing with her kidnappers. Though I’m not sure what I think about her throwing herself out the window assuming Natsu would catch her because she thought she heard his voice. I also wonder fondly at the sequence of events that led to Natsu and Grey staying at her apartment and Erza coming along to supervise.
And while I appreciate that the manga is consistent about Erza being the best fighter and one of the most powerful ones in the series, I wish that didn’t so often seem the exception. I mean, Elfman and Mirajane have the same angsty backstory (their sister’s death) and Mirajane is apparently much more powerful, but her go at get past it ended up irrelevant, while he gets to get past it and get his powers back.
And yet, still worlds better with gender than most licensed shounen!
