comics: Witchblade #124-127

Gaah! Top Cow! I thought you were mostly through with alternate covers! You should at least include warnings if I’m going to be subjected to Chris Bachalo covers. (Bachalo is, IMO, one of those artists who used to be great, but who sank so deeply into his “style” that his stuff is kinda ugly now. Sadly, I think that started towards the end of his stint on my beloved Generation X. )

I wonder where the backup with Gleason in #125 falls in canon. Primarily because it and Sara’s talk with Julie seems to imply that he may finally be leaving. Then again, maybe not, as he’s clearly been Marz’s pet since he first appeared.

I’m curious about Dani’s plotline with Finch, but nervous about it. At least partly because I made the mistake of reading a bit of the letters page (I stopped doing that years ago) which makes it sound “Fake lesbians are hot! But, of course, we have too much class for that. No, really.” Also, I desperately want Finch to be Aphrodite.

And I really hope the Witchblade War doesn’t last too long, or at least, changes its tune. Because while I know that it isn’t really Sara acting like that, I don’t know how much more I can take of Sara acting like the stereotypical “a tough woman is needlessly rude and aggressive and abrasive just because” character type.

Hopefully, though, Julie will get to start doing more, soon. It’s strange, because (including Hope and excluding Sara’s “all a woman needs to be cured of her damage and issues is a man and his cock” relationship with Gleason) I’ve really liked most of Marz’s plotlines, but (excluding my Dani and maybe the curator) I’ve strongly disliked most of his cast changes.

Also, I have apparently missed out on a few things by not having been following the recent Darkness series. I just can’t get past Jackie being a drug dealer. Because he’s done pretty much everything else in the book except murder/kick kids and kittens, but that was always the line he didn’t cross.
