Last night, I fell in love with Patrick Stump again. But let's start at the beginning.
So, I was at Young Wild Things last night, right? A friend of mine and I went, and as soon as we got in the place, we knew it would be fantastic, just because SO MANY PEOPLE had showed up. We got there around 6, the thing was scheduled for 7, so we had some time. We walked around, got dinner (mmm, $5 for a cheeseburger. o.o), and I bought my merch right away. Gym Class Heroes hoodie! :D Mmm, so soft.
So, anyway, we finally got to our seats, and immediately thanked Andy (read as: Jesus) for the help. The tickets were AMAZING. Sixth row, pretty much level with the stage (maybe looking down a tiny bit), off to stage right but not too far. We could see great. There were screens on either side of the stage, and they displayed messages you could send by text. I sent three - "Patrick is the new Pete", something about the Detroit-area boardies (until the end, friends. Until the end.), and "Marie says hello!" (Just for you, hon. *squish*)
So finally, the lights went down, Cute Is What We Aim For came out, and after about two songs, we wanted them to gtfo the stage. I love them, I do, but they should stick to recording studios, or figure out how to fine-tune their song live. Oh, and remind Shaant that a) looking like you're jerking yourself off to the beat is NOT attractive, and b) he is the SINGER. He should SING most of the time, instead of letting the guitarist dude do it. (I do not know the name of aforementioned singer dude, I apologize.)
Half an hour or so later, they leave. (Thank fuck.) We laugh about how bad they were, but when the lights go down next we jump up and yell like maniacs. Plain White T's! They opened with Hate (I Really Don't Like You), and there was something else, I forget ;_; But they were really good! They did Hey There Delilah near the end, and near the end of the song the guy (ARGH, names. such technicalities) goes "Hey there Detroit, here's to you/This one's for you" and everyone goes YAY. They also did Write You A Song acoustically (mostly), and they ended with Our Time Now. They were great. Nearly made up for Cute.
Lights go up, we squee over them a bit, Kasey (friend) points out how hot the singer (name plz) was, I agree, lights go down. A couple of rappers (backup one and Tiger, we'll get to him later) come out and freestyle about the tour, and then Gym Class Heroes come out and do their thing. After their first song, we see some guy come out, and laugh hysterically - he was dressed as the kid from the cover of School Children (fat blue kid!? yeah.). It was actually kind of cute >> But Travis had us sing Happy Birthday to Tiger, his cousin (I believe) who had just turned eighteen the day before. After that was done, he gave Tiger a loving hug, then went, "Now get off my stage, little fucker." Everyone giggles, and they do their thing. They ended with Clothes Off, and guess who joined them in the middle of their song!? Mmhmm, the original guest vocalist. Ah, Patrick, you may be shy but you wouldn't know it, the way you were strutting about onstage. Sigh.
After that, they took a few minutes to set up, during which they put up about ten-foot risers (on top of which Andy sat), ramps heading up and down on either side, and they met in the middle to find another ramp that went down to the floor. They also put up a big TV type screen behind Andy, and scenery and netting, etc. To make it stage-show-y. (They didn't need it.) Of course, we couldn't see this, because a huge veil had gone up over the stage and covered everything. Finally, the lights go down, Andy tries doing the opening to Sugar, We're Going Down, pauses, tries again, pauses, and FINALLY, the song starts. We are all amazed. I noticed that Pete, despite his foot, is doing well! (I'll get to this in a second.)
So they play that, another song (hell if I remember what it was, come on), then Pete goes "I have good news, and bad news. Bad news is, I broke my foot about a week and a half ago. *raises cast on leg* Good news is, I have enough Vicodin to last me a fucking year." He laughs, they play more (including Grand Theft Autumn! Oh, I was so happy xD), we jump up and down and squee. They actually did something that surprised me - Patrick came out, they filled the floor of the stage with dry ice, and he played Golden acoustically. Then ALL of them came out, and they did Nobody Puts Baby In the Corner acoustically (the way it was meant to be played, y/y?).
Then! Ooh, after a couple more songs, they covered Mr. Brightsides! And, after the second "It was only a kiss, how did it end up like this/It was only a kiss" ... You guessed it. Pete showed Patrick the love. (Unfortunately, it was not on the mouth, just quick on the cheek. If it had actually been a full-out kiss, it would have been like my freaking birthday.) I giggled, my friend kind of shrugged it off (I haven't yet shown her the ~way of the slash~), and they continued. They dedicated Thriller to "the die-hards", then went off after Arms Race. We knew they weren't done yet, so after Tiger led us in a chant to bring them back, they played Thnks Fr th Mmrs, Dance, Dance, and Saturday (omg eeeeee, I was excited. Good to see they haven't forgotten TTTYG) and left. Lights went up, and we left.
So, to summarize, Cute needed to gtfo, Plain White T's were awesome, Gym Class Heroes were pretty good, and Fall Out Boy was... well, FOB. I really wanted to go see them by the buses, but didn't bother. It was too long a walk, and too cold. I was comfortable in my GCH hoodie. :3
If you read all that, I'm proud of you :D
Oh, PS. I seem to have ZERO icons of FOB. If you have any, make them, etc., please please please show me? I want them. I have none.
