The general response to the Megamind comic has been somewhere between "Woohoo! More semi-official Megamind!" and "Pft. We can do better than that!"
Fandoms the world over have had similar reactions to their own canons. And, it must be said, you guys are pretty awesome. And this fandom has a big enough output for something like this to be plausible.
Thus, I propose we create a Megamind
Doujinshi.
Though, no, I have no intention of this ever getting published. Ever. No one even joke about making a profit from this unless it's along the lines of politely asking Dreamworks to hire us to do it officially. This is enough of a legal grey area as it is to risk it.
That out of the way, our first step is for the writers of our mega-awesome mega-fandom: Scripts.
There are a few
guides around the interwebs on how to write
comic scripts. Some sites have
official scripts that you can look over and see what the professional types produce. This is different than writing fanfic alone, and I advise you to check out those links to at least know where to start. Breaking things down panel by panel will make things much easier for the artist who tackles your story.
You might also be interested in checking out Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics and Making Comics; your local library probably has them in stock.
Script proposals are to be posted in the comments of this post -- either directly or linked. A few rules, at least for our first effort at this:
* Keep things kid-friendly -- nothing that Dreamworks wouldn't include in a film. Double-entendres and fade-to-black scenes are fine, along with cartoony violence.
* Remember that someone has to draw this. Try not to write anything that makes your hand ache at the thought of illustrating it (say, ten thousand distinct and unique brainbots, each with Megamind's logo painted on their dome).
* At least consider buying the official comic. Every little bit of support helps show Dreamworks we want more Megamind, after all!
* Have fun!
